Texecom ComIP module IP address not displaying on connected devices list

I want to connect a Texecom ComIP module to my Netgear router. I have programmed the Texecom ComIP as per Texecom instructions and when I ping the modules IP address I see that it is connected, however I do not see the ComIP listed in the connected devices list on my LAN network? How do I make sure then that the ComIP module is properly connected to my Netgear router?

Are you looking at the connected devices page in the app, through the browser, through access control?

Not sure what the Texecom ComIP device is exactly. If you know it has an ip address and can ping it from a different device, its connected. Is that ip address in the same subnet as the netgear router?

Re: Texecom ComIP module IP address not displaying on connected devices list

I am looking at the connected devices through the browser.

The ComIP is a Texecom module that connects a Texecom alarm control panel to a LAN network through a router, in this case my home network which has a Netgear D6200 router. Once connected it allows remote access to the alarm system for setting and monitoring purposes. I can see all my other devices eg. CCTV DVR and WiFi extenders on the Netrgear  browser page but not the ComIP module. I have pinged it and it responds but I am getting no further connectivity.

You have to set the ComIP's IP address manually through the alarm keypad and then add it on the router.

If you go through the gui and go:

advanced--->setup--->lan setup--->adress reservation: add

does it show on that list?

Yes it does but this is where I added/reserved it manually.

Re: Texecom ComIP module IP address not displaying on connected devices list

It wouldn't be the first device that didn't show up properly in the attached device list.

if it showed up in the lan list, you were able to set it with a reservation, and you can ping it, then what issue are you having? (other than it not showing in the standard attached device list)

Re: Texecom ComIP module IP address not displaying on connected devices list

I was concerned that the device was not connected as I cannot access my alarm system from the Texecom app. I have downloaded Lantronix software and it indicates that the device is connected to my LAN. Just very funny then that it does not display as a connected device in the Netgear GUI? This is problematic as unless I am sure that it is connected I cannot move to the next step of solving the Texecom connectivty issue I have. Why woudl the device not be showing up on the list then?  Still cant connect remotely to the alarm system from the Texecom app.

Re: Texecom ComIP module IP address not displaying on connected devices list

You can try downgrading the firmware on the router. some of the newer version have had issues with the connected devices page.

Are there certain ports that needed to be forwarded for your device?

Again, if you can ping it, its on the network. not sure of exactly how well that device works or how much configuration it needs.

First, identify your "a Texecom ComIP module".  A quick Web search
led to:

      https://www.texe.com/uk/products/series/communicators/premier-elite-series/

where all the potentially useful documentation seems to be hidden.  Is
your gizmo one of those?

> [...] I have programmed the Texecom ComIP as per Texecom instructions
> [...]

The non-psychics in your audience may not be able to see what you
did, or guess which IP address (et c.) you specified.  Or those "Texecom
instructions".

Is this a wired Ethernet or wireless connection to the router?

> [...] when I ping the modules IP address I see that it is connected,
> [...]

Actual "ping" command?  Actual "ping" command output?  "ping" from
what?  Copy+paste is your friend.

> [...] however I do not see the ComIP listed in the connected devices
> list on my LAN network?

   What _do_ you see?

If you "programmed the Texecom ComIP" with a static IP address, and
it hasn't tried to communicate with/through the router, then the router
could be entirely unaware of it.

> [...] How do I make sure then that the ComIP module is properly
> connected to my Netgear router?

   "ping" should tell you that.

> I am looking at the connected devices through the browser.

Is that what Netgear calls an "Attached Devices" report?

Seeing some actual product documentation might be more helpful than
seeing you interpretation of some actual product documentation.

If you configured the gizmo with a static IP address, then also
reserving a dynamic address for it (on the router) should prevent the
(DHCP server in the) router from issuing that address to some other
device, but doing that means that you're storing the same information in
two places.  That's fine, until you change something, and forget to make
the change in both places.

For example, on a typical Netgear router, the default DHCP pool range
is ".2" - ".254".  That is, the whole usable address range, except for
the router itself (".1").  If you shrank that to, say, ".2" - ".199",
then you could use the range ".200" - ".254" for static addresses, and
there would be no chance of the DHCP server in the router granting any
of those non-pool addresses to any DHCP client device.  (Barring router
firmware bugs, of course.)  You could then assign any address from the
".200" - ".254" range to your gizmo, and get rid of the address
reservation which the gizmo isn't actually using.

> [...] the Texecom app [...]

I know nothing about it, what you did with it, or what it did when
you did whatever you did.  As usual, showing actual actions (commands)
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

> [...] I have downloaded Lantronix software and it indicates that the

I have no idea what "Lantronix software" means to you, or what it
might indicate.
