Plex and share access
Hi I have purchased a readynas and set up shares with specific permissions to the best of my understanding. I have installed Plex which is working fine but it seems to have unrestricted access to all shares despite permissions.
For example on some of the shares I have limited SMB access (turned off all other protocols) to just admin+my user which is also admin. I've also set the file access permissions on this share, owner to my user and group to admin which guest/anonymous disabled and read/write to admin/my user only and no other read permissions. I have turned off the setting 'Grant rename/delete priviledges to AFP/NFS...' (not sure what this is but not using those protocols anyway.
Despite this the Plex server still seems to have at least read access to these shares. Please let me know what I am missing here :).
While I'm here please could you tell me why there are multiple 'admin' entries in the access control lists also.
Apologies if I've not been clear, I could provide screenshots if it will help. I generally concerned with permissions with the ReadyNAS and want to make sure everything is locked down appropriately and Plex being a potentially externally reachable server having complete access alarms me.
Thank you.

If you install Plex on the NAS itself, then it isn't accessing the files over the network. It's using the native BTRFS file system on the NAS. So network file permissions can't be used to limit its access.
Theoretically you could use file permissions instead of network permissions. But the Plex Media Server is installed as admin/admin, so you'd also be denying the NAS admin account access to those files also - which is not a good idea.
The only simple way to do what you want is to run Plex on a different machine, and only give that machine access to the shares that it needs.
