ReadyNAS 212

Hi,

I'm really at the end of my rope. Help would be greatly appreciated. I rebooted my ReadyNAS 21200 about ten times and finally did a factory reset. 24 hours later the situation is exactly the same. I've looked for discussions on this and they all end without indicating a solution. Official information about this device from Netgear is nearly impossible to find, it's like the unwanted stepchild of their entire line, or something.

My Plex server went down over a week ago. I've tried about 20 times to reinstall it and I get some cryptic response about ros6 binaries and am told the app cannot be installed. I've tried contacting Netgear to pay for support but the links and requirements also have me completely stymied.

Please tell me what I need to do to get my Plex Media Server back on my device and up and running.

Thank you,

John

Re: ReadyNAS 212

Personally I run Plex on an always-on PC, using the NAS to store the media.

There are a couple of issues.

One is that there is a problem with the Netgear repository for 6.10.8.  You can get past that by manually updated to 6.10.9.

The next problem is more difficult, and requires ssh to solve.  The NAS runs Debian 8 ("Jessie") Linux, which is quite old.  The Debian folks just archived the repositories.  The workaround for that is here:

You then can try installing the deb file from Plex directly

Select Netgear, and then choose the RN21x distribution.

Re: ReadyNAS 212

Is the NAS running properly, other than the issue with plex?

What firmware are you running?

Re: ReadyNAS 212

6.10.8

It says "healthy". I use it as a time machine back up and a Plex Media server, so frankly, I can't tell you whether anything else is working. I just erased everything and haven't tried to set up time machine again.

It also says "annapurna" is an issue, along with "ros6 - binaries". So frustrating.

Re: ReadyNAS 212

Thanks very much, Stephen B. I will try to do what you suggest, (technical abilities may be an obstacle). I will also try to do as you do and load my music to my NAS and run Plex from my computer, (in my case a Mac Mini).

Re: ReadyNAS 212

The firmware update allowed me to install Plex but when I launch it it says Firefox can't connect to the server. I imagine the other steps StephenB listed would help remedy that. First I'm going to try running Plex through my Mac Mini.

Thanks very much for your help!

John
