ReadyNAS NV RNV1-S2-0000
Hey guys,
I have an opportunity to purchase a ReadyNAS NV RNV1-S2-0000 from my boss since he no longer needs it. My question, is it any good? or is the NV+ better? please advise guys because I am new to all this and just want to find out some info as to what the difference between the two is.
I am looking for an NAS for home to backup all my files and for it to be accessible by 4-5 computers in the house along with maybe being able to host a website. Will this be possible? Also, does it have a Web Interface where I can configure everything? Does it support RAID? I have 4 Hard Drives x 3TB each = 12TB, will the ReadyNAS NV RNV1-S2-0000 support 12TB?
Please help me out guys, thanks in advance.

Re: ReadyNAS NV RNV1-S2-0000
The original NV is similar to the NV+ V1 and runs the NV+ V1 firmware. It has a web interface, supports transfer rates similar to USB-2 over your network. Hosting a web site is certainly possible.
It will not support 3 TB drives though, the max is 2 TB.

Re: ReadyNAS NV RNV1-S2-0000
The major difference between the NV and the NV+ is that the latter has a small LED panel on the bottom to display messages and alerts. The panel goes dark after a short period of time, but is re-activated by momentarily pressing and releasing the power button. While when it was initially introduced, it was considered a fast unit, the intervening six years have seen several generations of faster chips come on the market. With the exception of support for drives in excess of 2TB, it will do anything that a faster Ultra series will do, just slower. It does not have as many add on applications as the x-86 units (Ultra, Ultra Plus and Pro series).
I would not give very much money for the unit. Negotiations on price could be a little touchy since it's your boss. FWIW, I gave a very good fiend an NV+ along with two 1TB drives. It was not being effectively used since I have two NVX units (faster 32bit x-86 based, discontinued in favor or the 64bit Ultra 4). It gave him an opportunity to get started with a central file server in his home.
