ReadyNAS RND4000 - compatable replacement devices
Hi,
My ReadyNAS RND4000 v3 unit recently died, most likely the power supply blew according to my repair guy.
I found a second hand unit for a decent price but it is the ReadyNAS RND4000 (not version 3).
According to the ReadyNAS Wiki http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another this is possible "if they are in the same CPU architecture".
Are these 2 units the same CPU architecture, or do they differ? In other words, would putting my 4 disks into another RND4000 unit work?

No backup?
We need a bit more info.
Read this guide and let us know exactly what model each of the units are:
http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/unless they are both v1 or both v2 you will not be able to directly migrate your disks.
You should read this:
If if you have a NV+ v1 and the unit is within the range specified then you should be able to get a replacement from Netgear.
If not, and the 2 devices you have are not the same then have a few options:
1. You can buy a new Readynas 4 bay model, contact support then follow their instructions to migrate your data. You will be required to copy the data to another location during this process. Netgear will likely charge you for this.
2. You can try to find a new PSU.
If your units are the same architecture of course then you can migrate across. There is a specific set of procedures that must be followed when doing this so let us help you with this if the units are indeed the same.

I read the guide and it's a little tricky to workout, as according to the pictures of the back, mine is closest to the NV+ v1. However my one has a little power switch right next to the kettle socket in the center of the bottom pane.
So not sure where this falls?
It was purchased in April 2012.
The one on Ebay I'm interested in, matches the NV+ v1 back diagram (on the mentioned link) perfectly. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221886921549
The power supply blew when our electricity was off the other day and it came back on and obviously surged. I heard it blow.
Thanks for nothing surge protector plugs... :(
I am happy to do option 2, otherwise find exactly the same machine and see if it would work.
I am needing a new unit anyways as mine is getting rusted as you can see in the image...

Ok , I thought you had already bought the one on eBay.
Do you know what firmware was on the broken device? Is it silver?
Did you buy it new in 2012? If so then it is not likely to be among the units eligible for a PSU replacement.
There is one other option I did not mention and that is to buy a new model readynas and ask Netgear support to help you migrate the data across. They may charge you a fee for this and you would need their help.
That rust is unusual. Has the unit been unused and stored for some of its life? Where is it located?
