ReadyNas V1 v1 (RND4000) - Err: Bad Firmware
I came home the other night and heard the fan running very fast. I powered down the unit. However when powering it on, the front screen gives error:
Booting
ERR: Bad firmwar
After searching through the discussion forum, I've tried using the reset button and select OS Re-install option. I still have the same error. I then tried performing USB Boot with RAIDiator-4.1.16; but to no avail - same error. Lastly, I tried removing one disk at a time to see if a bad disk was a possibility. I still get the same error.
If I bring up Netgear RAIDar, it is able to detect the nas and "Status" shows as "Corrupt root".
Any other suggestions/options? I'd really like to keep/save the data on the drives. Hence, I have not attempted a factory reset option.

I think you will need a factory reset. But I suggest that you power up the NAS diskless, and confirm that you see a "no disks" status on the LCD screen - which will give some assurance that the flash is ok. RAIDar should also show this status. Label the disks by slot as you remove them.
Options to off-load data include
- connecting at least 3 drives to a Windows PC and using RAID recovery software (such as R-Studio)
- use tech support mode to manually mount the data volume and copy data off to USB drive(s).
After you get the NAS running, I suggest putting a backup plan in place. RAID isn't enough to keep your data safe.
