what version of SMB is my 312 using?
hi guys. Pulled the trigger on the ds1618+ during black friday. I plan on using my netgear 312 as a backup nas. Does anyone know what version smb this netgear 312 is using? My Dune player cannot seem to connect to the ds1618+ using smb2 /3 (only 1) and I was sure that my 312 was using 2 or 3. I can't seem to find anywhere on the 312 re: the smb version.

Hi Blanker-2, you can specify, whic smb version shall be used/accepted by the nas installing smb plus.
Smb plus also gives opportunity to pre-allocate space on disks when copying files to your nas, which might reduce (or even avoid) defragmentation efforts. The price you will pay is just a marginally worse writing performance, which is worth it, imho.
Kind regards
- Sorry, I should have clarified. Right now my dune can access the shares on my netgear312. The dune can only access my synology share via smb1.
I would like to conform to the deprecation of smb1, stephen, what do you mean all are enabled? Is it possible to know which one it uses at a given time? Are you not concerned with malware vulnerability using smb1?
Sorry missed the thread re the smb plus app. Will give that a go too.ok, I installed smb plus and checked every level. The Dune player will only access the share when I set the minimum level to smb1. Any higher and it won't connect. I will set the same on the ds1618+. It is what it is I guess.
Thanks for your help guys. I'm gonna miss this forum. A lot of great help on here. Way better than the Synology forums IMO. I was looking for a deal on a bigger netgear units but stock is non existeant on Amazon/Newegg. Couldn't pass up the ds1618+.
