Net gear Genie App Question

Newbie here...

I install a Netgear R6200 yesterday...straight out of the box installation, I changed nothing.

Downloaded the Netgear Genie app to my iPad Air 2. I can not connect the genie app. I try to login in and it just spins.

Help!

Is the iPad Air connected to the wireless network of the router or is it using the mobile data as connection?
