EAX20 intermittent?

I have a Nighthawk R7800 on the lower level of my home. A few years ago I added a Meross WiFi device for my garage door. Because of an apparent weak signal, I later added an EAX20. All was well until the past week when my video doorbell started going offline (it’s about 15’ from the EAX20). After much messing around, the doorbell somehow got connected to the router instead and all is well again. The EAX20 clients are mostly IP cameras and have never gone offline. Is the a means to select which AP a device connects to?

if you want to set it up so you can choose which it connects to, you'd have to disable the "one wifi" feature that makes it mesh with the same ssid. 

You'd just name it something different and choose which devices connect to it versus the router.
