New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

NOTE:  This FW is for Version 1 of the XR1000 gaming router line. This version of FW is NOT compatible with hardware Version 2 of the XR1000 router series product line. The label under the router should display a XR1000 v2 or version 2 text information on the label for a version 2 XR1000. Version 1 XR1000 will not display a version number text on the label.

Bug Fixes: 05/08/2023

  • Fixes the issue where Armor is not stable.
  • Fixes the issue where you cannot not access a USB drive that is connected to the router by clicking the http://readyshare.routerlogin.net/share link from a computer or mobile device that is connected to the router network.
  • Fixes the issue where you cannot log in to the router through the router web interface.
  • Fixes the issue where the router web interface is not accessible when you configure the XR1000 in AP mode.

Security Fixes:

This firmware addresses security vulnerabilities. For more information about security vulnerabilities, visit https://www.netgear.com/about/security

Firmware Update Instructions:

NOTE: It's recommended to factory reset and setup from scratch after applying this FW update.

NOTE: Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200

Adjust IP range as needed if you have more than 100 devices.

Be sure to make a backup configuration to file after the router as been setup:

Saves time if a factor reset is needed.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

Looks like the issue for me is something to do with DHCP (yes I had the range set as 100-200) I set up my own DHCP server and set the lease time to 1 week and it's been stable ever since

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

Is this just a hotfix or something? That changelog is very small for a firmware that hasn't been updated in more than a year. The DumaOs firmware progress page also says it should be DumaOS 3.3

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

NG had to release a firmware with security fixes, as you can imagine, ensuring a network device is secure is imperative so they were not able to have 3.3 available for this one but updates are coming.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

Why is it recommended to limit the DHCP IP pool to only 100 addresses. I tried to do this but the router became unresponsive and had to revert the change. What should you do if you have more than 100 devices?

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

I am curious to know if anyone uses Armor with this device? Are there any known issues by activating Armor and using the router's features? I know I initially had a paid subscription with my XR1000 about two-three firmware versions prior to the one listed here and I remember having issues with the device messing up to where I needed to factory reset it several times between several months of using it. I ended up disabling it and canceling my subscription to Armor becasue I wasn't sure if this was the cause. The problems eventually went away, but I do not know if it was a firmware update that resolved it or if it was because I stopped using Armor.

I want to know if any others have encountered issues with this service while using their device at any point.

What were the issues you were having exactly? Then we can determine whether Armor may have been the cause.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

Hey there! The router would give me errors when trying to login. I would get some UI loading problems, which I do not remember, and I would have to factory reset my router every so often. It has been a while since I had that problem. I was just curious about Armor because I was thinking of giving it another try and did not want to spend the money if it was buggy, or others were having issues with it of some sort.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

UI loading could potentially be Armor yes, it's hard to give a definitive answer on this one, perhaps wait for the next firmware first which should be a big improvement then you could try it again.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

Since updating to this firmware, YouTube is very unstable. I can't watch a single video to completion without it frequently buffering. WiFi dropouts are more frequent. This router has been a pain to use since purchasing a couple years ago. I was hesitant on updating due to frequent issues and all this has done is proven me right.

Did you factory reset after the update? That should resolve it as there isn't anything that changed that should affect main functionality.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

For YouTube if you disable QoS fully from the Congestion Control menu does it work better then?

For WiFi, disable Smart Connect, give 2.4/5GHz different names and apply - you'll want to connect to 5GHz specifically for speeds
Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that
Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface
Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proximity ~3 feet if possible
Set the antennae to this position _ | | _

Then see if it works any better.

For now YouTube seems stable. But clients on 2.4ghz and 5ghz randomly lose connection. This has happened 8 times today since my last reply.

Re: New - XR1000 Firmware Version 1.0.0.68 Released

In LAN Settings, set the DHCP range to start at .50, then assign static IP addresses on thoughs devices between .2 & .49 so they're out of the DHCP range, apply, reboot from the interface, wait 2 minutes and see if that stops the disconnects.

Other than that, have you made any Traffic Controller rules, blocked a device in the Device Manager or made any changes in Settings to the site blocking feature?

2.4GHz is more prone to interference, are there any devices within ~3 feet of the router, WiFi enabled devices, wireless headphones, a microwave etc. Is it on/in metal?
