NightHalke XR500 - reboot every 2-3 weeks needed

About every 3-4 weeks, the TV (Hulu) delays streaming as well as other slow ups. I just wind up rebooting the router and everything is fine for another period of time. It's almost as if some memory or something is filling up and not clearing itself.

I've heard from someone that if it was WiFI, it could be channel conflict. But it isnt only wifi.

Any idea on what could be happening and the resolution?

I'm using this router as a home router. Internet via Spectrum modem that has two ports and a wireless 2.4 and 5 WiFi.

The XR500 is connected to a 16 port hub that is only using 6 ports currently. TV router is connected via the 16 port hub and then to AppleTV as well as a few other things. Computer is connected via back port as is VOIP Vonage. I have an AERO for security that is connected to another port on the Spectrum Modem.

I do automated day trading on the computer connected.

Other automation in the house is either WiFi or connected through hub.

Running the latest firmware

Ic I connect directly to the other Spectrum modem wifi, everything is super fast.

    NightHalke?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

IF the ISP modem already has a built in router and wifi, This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

NIGHTHAWKE - I corrected it. Typing fast. (kind of like "connected too" in your message)

      is there another XR500?

the latest firmware - I look for update and it says there are none.

It just says UBEE on the modem. It actually has four ethernet ports on the back. Two seem useable.  So that's what I have to use.

I do not have problems all the time, which I figure would happen if there was a problem with double NAT. IT is only after a period of time - originally I said 3-4 weeks. It is still 3-4 weeks

When this happens does the Internet LED turn amber by chance?

Can you find a model# of the ISP modem on the modems sticker?

  • Is it mostly just that device that experiences the slow down or is it others as well? How does the slow down manifest, slow speed tests, loading of websites etc?

      Thanks for the reply.

Yes - In hulu the signal stops for a bit, there is a small spinning  wheel on the Hulu timeline and then continues. If I do a speed test with WiFi from my iphone, often times that seems to "trigger" the signal to continue.  It seems eventually Hulu says it cant see an internet connection. Then if I check my WiFi, it has dropped the internet connection as well. If I go directly to the spectrum modem, it hums along - it is still connected to the internet as is the other Router on the Spectrum device's 2nd ethernet port. Its only the XR500. And once I reboot it, everything seems to work for again, about 3-4 weeks.

When it happens again could you access the System Information page on the router and take a screenshot of what you see please? It would also be helpful if you could grab the log file from that same page as well.
