Issue with openvpn running on NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 R8000 behind telco gateway router

I have telco modem/router that connects through PPPoe and it acts as a gateway on 192.168.2.1.  I have connected NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 R8000 on lan1 of the telco router.  Netgear Nighthawk X6 is reachable on 192.168.1.1.  Now the vpn service is running on netgear x6 on port 12974.  When I connect my Mac via Tunnelblick or Viscosity, the IP address on my mac doesn't change to local lan ip address.

This is the log I am getting.  Can someone guide me as to how to set it up properly.  Do I have to do port forwarding from telco router 192.168.2.1 port 12974 to netgear 192.168.1.1 on port 12974?

Where are you connecting your Mac computer?

Is it behind the NETGEAR or outside network?

My mac is connected via mobile hotspot and not connected to netgear home network setup.

Hi simpleb,

You may need to do port forwarding on your telco router as the R8000 is connected to a private network and OpenVPN will not work.
