NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

I just performed the upgrade and all I have checked so far works fine. Will be kicking the tires on this a little further. Seems stable. I tried to copy the fixes here, but it failed. Perhaps someone else can locate them.

My DNS settings weren't preserve

I upgraded via the web UI without a full reset afterward... I know, not recommended (and see below).

I didn't have working Internet access after the upgrade from the most recent V1.0.1 but apparently this was because my previous Google public DNS settings were not preserved correctly (i.e. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). The router status still showed these DNS IP addresses after the upgrade but my DNS did not respond. Internet was restored after switching DNS back to "Get Automatically from ISP" and also worked after setting the Google DNS server IPs again. Probably should do a full reset now to be sure nothing else got screwed up. 🙂

Re: My DNS settings weren't preserve

The beamforming and airtime fairness have been removed it appears as both settings are now removed from the GUI.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

I dont see this yet on the U.S. downloads. I do see it on the netgear genie. Forgive my stupidity but is for the U.S.? Also I am not having any problems with the version this one is replacing.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

As far as initial impressions go ... my link rates (speed) as reported by Windows do seem to be lower. I seem to be consistently 600 - 700 Mbps. I was consistently 750 - 866 Mbps prior (1.0.2.120 firmware). Router location did not move ... same with my laptop ... did not change my walls any 😉 Signal strength via inSSIDer seems to be within normal ranges.

When I get a chance over the next few days I will need to play with throughput benchmarks.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

I upgraded using the automatic process via the GUI. After the upgrade I shut it down for a minute and re-booted. Initial tests show reduced wireless speeds and now I am seeing the signal strength itself reduced. Nothing else in the physical environment was changed my laptops are in the same room they were before. I will do some further analysis and tests later today including stability and report back but initial testing shows reduced speeds.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

ok did a little more testing over lunch break and I just noticed that I am was not able to get to my router page anymore either via 192.168.1.1 or routerlogin.com so I re-booted the router again and I was able to get in just fine for about 30 mins and now same issue... I un-installed netgeargenie and re-installed it and does the same thing very annoying.

Anyone else seeing this with the new firmware / (current) genie combo?

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

Yup ... the new genie app (Windows based at least) ... is ... bad :( It hoses up your login from that point forward. Browser based login no longer works. The network map seems to work, but even the genie app cannot login for settings. A manual reboot is required. I have updated my router to 1.0.2.164. I would get the genie version ... but I dare not start it 😞

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

Yes that is true for me also! I had to uninstall the current version of Genie available and install a older version that I had saved and now everything is OK got to be something wrong with Netgear Genie causing this problem and not the router. This even happened after upgrading to the newest version of firmware posted last night.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

Using the genie app on my iPhone 5 appears to be fine. Via my Windows based laptop I can still login to the admin GUI via Chrome without issues. It appears to be isolated to the Windows version of the genie app.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

I'm also very disappointed. I tried this new firmware and the transmit rate dropped considerably.

I hope Netgear will fix it because the hardware piece is amazing but they don't know how to use full strength by software.

Just wait a little but longer and if we still see this behavior the only option is to use dd-wrt.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

I did some more testing and issue seems to be with the Windows version of the Genie 2.3.1.13 and the FW V1.0.2.164_1.0.15. I have un-installed the Genie from my Windows machines. Does anyone have a link for a prior version of the Genie for Windows?

The below FTP path seemed to work for me. Uninstalled 2.3 version, and installed older 2.2 version. ftp://downloads.netgear.com/netgeargenie/update/archive/2.2.28.24/

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!:D

First off like to say thanks to the forum members and Netgear team on pushing out a new firmware. 😄

Thus far it seems the wireless signal and speed has decreased...can anyone confirm this for sure!!!! And it appears we need to roll back to an earlier version of the Netgear genie for Windows in order to access the router properly?

1) is this on the 2.4 & 5 GHZ band ??????
2) When you upgraded to the new FW, did you hard reset the router and
reinput you're config manually???

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

Hmmm...not seeing the problems with the Genie application, since I don't use it *smile*. I just use the router GUI. No problems getting into the router GUI yet, been up a couple of hours now.

The new firmware is doing fine here at the moment. The wireless strength seems down a little bit, maybe, a little early to tell. I'm fine with the airtime fairness thing disappearing, but a little nonplussed by the implicit beamforming feature apparently disappearing. I was hoping that they'd fix that one. Maybe next time.

5Ghz.

Yes. I always do reset. Its getting very complicated...

Im also running a beta firmware on another R7000 unit to test and help netgear engineering.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

good riddance with AirTimeFairness that was so buggy and un-tested... however the Implicit Beamforming kinda worked for me as I could almost track the speed and strength go up as I moved around the house and stayed stationary for 5-10 mins and moved to a different spot.

I hope in the near future the Engineering will fix the implicit beamforming functionality and test it a little more and ship it out with a FW release.

Oh dear...my wifi AC speeds have gone down from 1300 mbps to 702 mbps on the new fw. Time to roll back to the previous firmware 😞

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.164_1.0.15

Well, I have done some basic speed tests comparing 1.0.2.164 to 1.0.2.120.

I find 120 about 1-2 Mbps faster on the down link and around 2-3 Mbps faster on the up link.

So the fact that with 164 reports a lower link or speed they both are going pretty much the same speed.

Kind of like for one the speedometer maxes out at 866 Mbps (1.0.2.120), the other 702 (1.0.2.164) Mbps, but at the end of the day, they both travel pretty much the same speed; mind you, the older 120 version at least for me squeaked out ahead. I am far from being in a controlled environment.

Considering my 1.0.2.120 firmware has been really really stable for me and my devices ... also considering the ever so slightly faster speed tests ... I am going to stick on 1.0.2.120 I think.
