R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

I have been using the Netgear R6220 router.

Recently i upgraded my internet speed from 75mbps to 125mbps.

But the max speed never crosses 80~90 mbps.

The service provider said the router does not have the gigabit ethernet port so the speeds are limited by the router.

Can someone confirm if this is true ?

I'd take it up with your ISP. Tell them its a gigabit router but only connecting to 10/100mbps.

Its not something that you can change as its auto-negotiates.

If you can't change out the cable, then they can test it.

If you could directly connect your pc to have it work, then you could test it.

Re: R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

the router is gigabit.

What modem is it connected to?

What speeds do you get from the modem?

Have you tried replacing the cables from modem--router and router----device?

Make sure you test hardwired.

Re: R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

Hi thank you for the confirmation regarding gigabit support.

There is no modem connection, an ethernet cable is provided by the ISP directly.

PPPoE connection. The ISP says others are able to get 125mbps speeds so it must be the router issue.

what speeds do you get directly connected to the fibre connection?

Have you tried a simple factory reset on the router?

Are you testing wired?

You might test the router out to see if it supports WAN to LAN speeds:

https://www.duckware.com/tech/router-wan-to-lan-throughput-test.html

It may not have HW NAT Acceleration support.

Make sure your ethernet adapter is supporting of 1000Mpbs connection rates.

For your future needs, Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for General Router products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with older routers and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Re: R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

Tried direct connection with Dell latitude 7490 ethernet port but it says Unidentified Network whether i connect the ISP cable or the Router to Laptop.

unfortunately all other Laptops at home are SLIM laptops and do not come with ETHERNET connector.

There is Speedtest in the router in QoS setting which shows 90mbps max.

Wifi 5ghz connection, speedtests never cross 80~90 mbps.

And Yes, I did do a RESET by pressing the RESET button and made all configurations, but no difference found.

Re: R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

did you try replacing the cable? A sketchy cat 5 or cat 5e cable can drop the link from gigabit to 10/100.

Re: R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

As the ethernet cable comes from ISP it cannot be changed. I get direct ethernet cable from the ISP, the main switch could be anywhere. So we cannot change the cable. only the ISP can change it.

You can log in and check what the router is connecting at. Get a screen snip of the internet connections statistics.

It shows as 100M connection and not as 1000M. Please find attached screenshot.

Re: R6220 Router gigabit ethernet supported ?

Thank you so much for the information and patience. I will definitely communicate with the ISP now that i have the confidence that the router supports gigabit support.

Thank you again
