Set up problem

I have a new model R7000 and cannot follow through with the set up instrucitons. I want to log into the router. The genie does not open, when I try www.routerlogin.net it tells me I am not connected to my router's wifi network. I have tried all the instructions offered on that screen, but nothing works. If it matters, I also just bought a new modem (Arris SB6138) and am trying to get everything working. The modem seems to be working fine.

Thanks for your replies. The problem was the IP address as you (and the other person posting) identified. However i did not feel comfortable changing that myself and wound up calling technical support. Had an excellent experience there! Thanks for your help.

Using a Web browser? On what sort of device?

As usual, showing the actual error message would be better than your
interpretation of the actual error message, but it does sound like the
all-too-common "You are not connected to your Router's WiFi network."
Netgear routers translate "[www.]routerlogin.net" to the router's own
address, _if_ you're using that router as the DNS server. If you use
some other (real) DNS server, then "[www.]routerlogin.net" will take you
to some Netgear server (currently 52.40.244.61, 54.186.157.116, I
gather), which will return that "You are not connected" nonsense.
With no information on the system on which you're running your Web
browser, I don't know how to determine/change which DNS server(s) you
might be using.

It's a seriously unhelpful page, with mostly useless advice.
An alternative to "[www.]routerlogin.net" would be the router's
default IP address, which might be "192.168.1.1". (Or use your
computer's IP address as a template, if you know how to find that.)

When you do what? Connect your computer directly to the modem
instead of involving the R7000?

You are not the first person to experience this problem. (See this forum for many other examples.) Netgear even has an article on the topic that you should read:

Unfortunately, there is no single "do this and it will fix it" solution.
One thing to try is the IP address for the router – usually http://192.168.1.1 – but your modem may have taken over control and assigned something else.
Remember, when setting up a new device, you need to follow the sequence described in the Quick Start guide, which is somewhere at the end of this link:

After checking several things out, technical support did a very good job pinpointing the problem and guiding me to changing the IP address. I am not very tech savvy and would not begin to try explailn it to someone else, especially it being very late last night when I did it. I know I went to the apple menu and changed the ethernet IP address to 192.168.1.1.
