RAXE300 DNS stops working

So this is a tricky one. We have had the RAXE300 a few months and about once or twice a week the devices on the network can't access the internet - We then restart the router and all is fine. However we noticed that my son's vpn connection wasn't affected. So what we have been doing is to turn off automatic DNS and set the DNS directly e.g. 8.8.8.8. FYI We have a seperate router and modem. This is not ideal and a problem with the RAXE300.

When we logon to the router to reboot when there is a problem I noticed the performance is seriously bad. It is as if the router has had some kind of problem and one of the symptoms is that DNS messes - of course it could be the other way round.

We are on Router Firmware Version V1.0.7.62_1. I don't suppose there is a new firmware update coming out?

Any suggestions on what diagnostics I can get or turn on would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Re: RAXE300 DNS stops working

are you on xfinity?

Xfinity's dns solution has had issues for quite a while.

Try a different DNS Server. Here's a few. Also remember to change the ipv6 dns server if ipv6 is enabled.
CloudFlare
IPv4: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
IPv6: 2606:4700:4700:0:0:0:0:1111 and 2606:4700:4700:0:0:0:0:1001
GoogleDNS
IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
IPv6: 2001:4860:4860:0:0:0:0:8888 and 2001:4860:4860:0:0:0:0:8844

Re: RAXE300 DNS stops working

So the IPV4 dns settings already pointed at Cloudflare and Google and I change the IPV6 setting to also point to them as well but it hasn't resolved the problem.

Any other suggestions or how to diagnose the issue?

Re: RAXE300 DNS stops working

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.
How many RBS are deployed?

Does disabling IPv6 entirely change the behavior?

Is Protetion Engine feature seen anywhere in the routers web pages at all?

Re: RAXE300 DNS stops working

So my firmware version is  V1.0.7.62_1. Which as far as I can tell is the latest.

The modem is a Virgin Media Hub 5 set to Modem mode.

I have one remote base station.

All cabling is of a good standard.

IPV6 doesn't seem to have any effect either way.

Thanks for your help.

Re: RAXE300 DNS stops working

You have a virgin hub but its in modem mode?

And you have a remote base station? What is this?

I'm curious about this setup.

Have you factory reset and reinstalled the router lately?
