Trying and failing to add my old EX7300 to a new Orbi and satellite system.

Trying and failing to add my old EX7300 to a new Orbi and satellite system.

I had an EX7300. Didn't work well enough, so I bought an Orbi SRK60 router and satellite. Now I would like to extend to the basement with the old EX7300. I couldn't log into the EX7300 using the new Orbi router password, but only with my old password for my old router, using the old name of the EX7300 ext network link. But, though it connects to the router, it won't update firmware on my phone, saying that it's not connected. So it appears that I'll not have one system that automatically hands off the signal to the satellites, but the Orbi router, it's Orbi satellite and a seperate source, the EX7300.

Is there a way to get the two joined as one seamless network or do I have to give away my old extender?

wow...your situation sounds confusing

you may want to try and reset the EX7300 to factory settings then treat it like a new extender

Please visit and post about this over in the Orbi Pro forum:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-Pro-WiFi-for-Small-Business/bd-p/en-business-orbi-pro

Or the WiFi Extender forum:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/WiFi-Range-Extenders-Nighthawk/bd-p/home-wifi-range-extenders

The EX model you have may not be wirelessly compatible with Orbi Pro.

There are multiple issues.  It appears that the EX7300 needs to be "Factory Reset" so it will forget the previous connections and then set up  using the WPS button.or the web browser method: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/EX7300/EX7300_UM_EN.pdf

While the EX7300 "works with any standard WiFi router" (Product data sheet: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/datasheet/en/EX7300.pdf ) that does not mean that it becomes an Orbi satellite (i.e. part of the Orbi mesh).  To the Orbi, the EX7300 will appear as a WiFi access point (or extender) which has a number of devices connected to it.  Even if the EX7300 is set up with exactly the same SSID/password as the Orbi, devices will not "roam" between the two systems.

So, "seamless network"? no.

Provide WiFi signal to devices in the basement? Sure.

@Tiredoftech,

Welcome to the community! 🙂

I'm afraid to inform you this is NOT possible.  Orbi Pro devices are just compatible to work with Orbi Pro devices only.
