Hardwired Windows 10 PC will not have network connection coming out of sleep

I have a couple of PCs which are hardwired to the Orbi RBR750 (aka AX4200). Every time I wake the PC it will not have network connection for about 10 seconds. This is the message posted to the Windows Event Log upon wake:

Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM
Network link is disconnected.

I've already reviewed the power settings in Windows; I don't see any option that could allow me to retain the network connection (I do know that this is an option for laptops with wireless adapters; just not aware of a setting for hardwired adapters). This issue issue of disconnecting does NOT occur when using other brands of routers.

This problem has occurred since owning the Orbi. I'm on the latest firmware as of today (V4.6.5.14). The only thing I see in the router's log is a DHCP entry upon wake like this:

[DHCP IP: (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)] to MAC address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx, Monday, Dec 13,2021 08:15:54

Also want to add that the Orbi's reported uptime for the port does reset when this occurs so it thinks the port is disconnected.

Ensure your ethernet adapter drivers are up to date.
Disable any power management features for the ethernet adapter.

Try a different adapter.

Re: Hardwired Windows 10 PC will not have network connection coming out of sleep

I had a similar problem with a hardwired Lenovo Windows 10 laptop. My practice was to close the lid (to keep the cat from walking on the keyboard), which put the laptop to sleep.  When I raised the lid, the network symbol remained that stupid 'globe' picture.  I would go into Network Troubleshooting, which would restore the connection.  (Do not recall if I ever just waited 10 seconds. That would have been much easier.)

I finally did a trace on the ethernet link and looked at the packets with Wireshark.  There was a very clear sequence:

Laptop - Request IP

Orbi - Grant IP

Laptop - Request IP

Orbi - Grant IP

Laptop - Request IP

Orti Grant IP

....

My point was that it was clearly the laptop at fault, not the Orbi.  (I have since moved some equipment around and the laptop is now connected over WiFi so it is not trivial to perform the experiment again.)

Re: Hardwired Windows 10 PC will not have network connection coming out of sleep

Thx CrimpOn and Furry. Fair enough that it may be PC. But seeing that 2 other routers I tried do not have this issue: is this possibly a configurable item in Orbi's design?

Its not a major problem, but annoying as every time I resume & log into a wired PC that pages/web functionality hangs for a short bit.

I'm going to try statically assigning an IP but no idea if this will help.

Re: Hardwired Windows 10 PC will not have network connection coming out of sleep

The only OS settings related to wired connections that I could find are in the local group policy editor: Admin Templates \ System \ Power Management \ Sleep Settings. I explicitly set "allow network connectivity during connected-standby (plugged in)" to Enable & rebooted. I also ensured NIC drivers are up-to-date. IP statically assigned. Problem still happens.

Plugged into my ASUS, sleep and wake: zero problems.

Additional suggestions welcome!

I can't explain why your wired network connection would behave differently during Sleep depending on whether it is wired to the Orbi or Asus router.

Here's one other Windows suggestion to try.  In the ethernet adapter Properties, Configure, Power Management tab, uncheck "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save Power".  It's similar to the suggestion here to do it for the Wi-Fi device, but it also works also for your Ethernet adapter: https://silicophilic.com/internet-disconnects-when-computer-sleeps/
