ipV6 disconnecting on Orbi RBR850

(NOT RBK53 model in drop down, why is RBR850 not there?)

I have RBR850, firmware V4.6.7.13_2.1.9, and a CM1200 modem connected to Comcast's 1.2/40 service. All is working well, speeds, modem numbers, errors/logs are all fine. I read somewhere, can't find it now, on the Comcast board I believe, that Orbis were dropping their ipV6 connection. I didn't know if mine was or not, as I have nothing requiring ipV6 exclusively, and ipV4 is available. So I checked last night on the router web page, and sure enough the router didn't even have a WAN or LAN ipv6 ip address! After some playing around, I found I just selected Auto-detect, saved, and it went back to DHCP and had an ip address - and the test ipv6 was back to 10/10.

Everything else in my ipv6 settings is default - dns address of ISP, auto config of IP address assignment, and enable RIPng is not selected.

This morning, about 7 hours later, I just did the ip test, and it failed. Now this time, the router still had ip addresses, but ipv6 was definitely not working. I tried a router reboot, still not working. Again, I set it to auto-detect, saved, it went back to dhcp, and the ipv6 test is back to 10/10 pass.

what I had read is that the Ori router is dropping ipv6 every 4-5 hours. This appears to be happening to my router as well. Is this something for NG engineers to investigate? Is there anything I should do? Are others seeing this (you may have to go and test it specifically since ipV4 is working fine)?

  • OK, it's been two weeks, and my IPv6 has been working perfectly all that time, no more disconnects! I am going to mark this thread as solved, with the update of firmware to 4.6.8.5 being the thing that fixed it. If others are still having trouble I suggest starting a new thread, as there may be multiple issues. Thanks everyone for your help!

Sorry if this is obvious, but could you please describe how you do the IP test?

Way cool.  Thanks.  I particularly like the tab which explains how the tests were run.  I'm guessing that "Fail" means that all of the IPv6 tests were not successful?

Mine is still working great. I made a couple posts that I have since deleted, I was mistakenly on another network. Sorry for any confusion that might’ve caused, everything is working great here!

I am on 4.6.8.2_2.1.9 (Orbi RBR850) and I am one of the ones reporting the problem so yes it does occur on the latest firmware.

Did you power OFF and back on the ISP modem and RBR for 1 minute or  factory reset and setup from scratch then test IPv6?

donawalt I see v.5 appeared today. Hoping that this may see some better results on this.

Let us know if you can load it up and what you experience. I would give it a few days to settle in on IPv6 and check the results.

FarmerBob1 Can chime in on this as well.

Hi FURRYe38 I have 4.6.8.5 installed on my 2 RBS850s and RBR850. Interestingly, I turned on IPv6, tested, it worked fine. I ran a speediest, refreshed a few web pages that were up on my browser, all was fine. I rebooted, waited for things to settle, and happened to check IPv6 again, and it failed! Maybe this was some sort of startup/update anomaly. I now have it back on as of 1:15 PM EDT, so I'll watch it and report back. Thanks for staying up on top of this!

FURRYe38 I was too eager to declare this problem solved. This morning the IPv6 IP was dropped and no new IP assigned. The message in the web control panel is that IP is 'not available' See screenshot

      IPv6 not available.

I'm sorry I declared the problem solved yesterday but I did at least include a reservation.

Sorry that I've lost track of the permutations.  Is there a specific reason that RIPng is not enabled?

Well, I went 24 days with solid IPv6, this morning there was no IPv6 address - and as you can see from the posted image, it was not like the other times that I thought the latest firmware fixed, where an IPv6 address showed on the router page, but the IPv6 tests failed - as you can see, there is no IP address at all reported by the RBR850! All I did this time was just click "Apply", and it came back with an IP address. Is this related to a lease renewal, or on anomaly, or ...? I'll keep a log and keep watching it. It will be interesting now to see if something happens in another 24 days. Let me know if there are any ideas to check since this looks different than before.

Firmware is V4.6.8.5_2.1.9. It worked for 15 days.  Both the IPv6 test page and Orbi router page indicate no configuration:

Whats the system Uptime show on the RBRs debug page? Just curious. Router IP address/debug.htm

I found it, disregard private message....it says

        System Uptime: 0 days 08:27:51

So about 8 hours ago it restarted.Interesting, not sure why it did that. No evidence of  power fail in the house and I did not do it.
