I've had my Orbi 50 system (w/1 satellite) for a little over a year and a half and have been generally happy with it. About 2 - 3 weeks ago I started getting random loses of wireless internet on all wireless attached devices. It appears that my iMac that is hard wired to the RBR50 wireless router is unaffected. I checked that I was running the latest firmware and reset the router to factory defaults. I renamed the network from the default and set a new password. After about a day of good service the problem has started again this evening. I am at a loss as to what to do except for pitching the whole lot. I have also reset both the Orbi, satellite and the cable modem multiple times. When I log into the router from the wired attached iMac, like many have reported, in the router logs I see a number of "DoS Attack: SYN/ACK Scan" entries. Is this connected to my issues? I don't have a clue. Any folks have an idea what I might try next to restore peace and harmony in my household with a more reliable wireless network?
OK, I saw on this blog that there was new firmware (2.7.0.70) for both the RBR50 and RBS50. They did not show up when I logged into the router but they were there on the NG website so I did a manual firmware update. So far everything is up and operating normally. I'll see if the firmware update helps my situation. I'll report back.
So after watching the network's behavior it appeared that the satellite was losing its connection to the router, thus causing the loss of coverage. Even though the satellite had been in the same position on the 1st floor of the house for 19 months, I moved it to where it was essentially directly underneath the router (which is my upstairs office). I also set the 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ channels to ones that my Mac OS Network panel said had the least interference. The network has now been stable for 5 days.
The router and satellite were about 25 feet apart for 19 months, with the signal having to go through 2 walls and a floor. Now it's about 15 feet apart, separated only by 1 floor. If things stay settled for the next few days I'll try to put the satellite back in the old position and see what happens.
