Orbi 970 - Slow Satellite Speeds

Hello,
I have a Orbi 970 that I just installed the other day, 1 router 2 satellites.
Firmware Version: V9.12.3.3_1.2.20
Home square footage: 5,000
Each satellite is on wired backhaul, approximately 40ft away from one another
Updated channels on 2.4ghz and 5 ghz
I am currently getting speeds of 900 Mbps when in proximity of the router but when I'm close to a satellite, my speeds are less than 100 Mbps. I did inplug the wired backhaul to see if that was the issue and speeds did not change. Please advise on how to fix this?

Are the satellites connected directly to LAN ports on the 971 router? (no switch involved)
Can you check the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab home page, Click the Blue Box "Show Statistics" to see what speed has been auto-negotiated for those LAN ports?
If it reports 100M/Full (rather than 1000M/Full), there may be a problem with the in-house Ethernet wiring (often a faulty crimp on one of the RJ45 jacks).
I purchased a 100 ft. Cat6 Ethernet cable on Amazon for under $20US that I keep on hand to validate wiring issues. Temporarily string the cable through the house from router to satellite. If the speed jumps to 1000/Full, that verifies "something is wrong" with the in-house pathway, which usually consists of:
- Ethernet cable from Orbi to wall jack (often in a patch panel)
- In-house wiring
- Ethernet cable from wall jack to satellite
- RJ-45 jacks in Orbi, satellite, and wall plates.

Re: Orbi 970 - Slow Satellite Speeds
What devices are you using to connect and run speed tests with?
Be sure that when you are near the RBS with a wireless device, disable it's Wi-Fi radio for 5 seconds then re-enable it. Some Wi-Fi devices, though near to a closer Wi-Fi signal can still be connected to the farther Wi-Fi signal thus giving off slower speeds and not accurate for being connected to the RBS. Make sure that your test device is connected to the RBS. Check the RBS web page or via the Orbi app.
Compare other wireless and wire devices to check speed results. I carry a iPhone and android pad when I test.
How are the RBS ethernet connected to the RBR? Directly being the RBR or is there any LAN switches or patch panels in between them?
What CAT# LAN cable is being used? CAT6A STP is recommended.
What channels are set on the RBR?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

Re: Orbi 970 - Slow Satellite Speeds
Device: iPhone 16 Pro
The satellites are directly connected to the router via Cat6 cables.
2.4 GHz channel: 5
5 GHz channel: 40
I cannot set the 6 GHz channel
Wifi is using both 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz channels
Modem is a Netgear CM1000

Re: Orbi 970 - Slow Satellite Speeds
I would change to channel 1,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz. 5 is a sub channel used by the Wi-Fi system.
Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

RBS are directly connected from feedback.

Re: Orbi 970 - Slow Satellite Speeds
Thanks for your reply. It was actually super helpful. When I did as you instructed, the LAN ports that I was using for wired backhaul were showing up as "100M/Full".
I unplugged those outlets and that seems to throw my wifi into a bit of a frenzy. I got everything up and running again but now my WAN is showing up as "100M/Full" (it was previously 1000M/Full")

Re: Orbi 970 - Slow Satellite Speeds
Power off the ISP modem for 1 minute then back ON. Then check WAN port speed?
CAT6A STP cabling is recommended. This differs from CAT6 UTP cabling.
Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status and event log page.
