RBE971 and 2 satellites - Cannot connect Google Home - "Turn off AP isolation...?

Hello,

I've been using the new Orbi 970 series BE27000 Mesh System for just under 2 months now and it seems like I've just experienced one problem after the other.

My recent issue, which brings me here to this forum today, is that I can no longer connect my Google Nest mini device and am unable to connect a new Google Nest Hub that I just bought.

I also want to say that the Google Nest mini was already part of my Google Home group, up and running on the Orbi wifi network, but after having issues trying to set up the new Google Nest Hub, I decided to remove all of my Google home and other smart home devices from my Google Home app and set it all up from a blank slate.. Ugh.hh, bad move... it's been over 5 hours now, and I'm still trying to get it all set back up.  I started using the IoT network for everything, because I thought that would be a more secure choice for me smart lights, Arlo camera, home speakers, etc.. but When I got to getting my Sonos Move connected, I had issues removing it from the main wifi network and connected to the IoT network. Then, when I tried to set the Nest Mini up, again, a message appeared saying that both the Google Nest and my phone needed to be on the same wifi network to work, so then I tried again to my main wifi, and that didn't work either.

I've attached the error message I am seeing in the Google Home app after setting up either the Nest Mini or the Nest Hub, both give the same error.

They both connect to wifi, but neither will appear on the list of devices on the Google Home app.

Please let me know any other info you might need and thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Re: RBE971 and 2 satellites - Cannot connect Google Home - "Turn off AP isolation...?

Attached is the screenshot of the error message from the Google Home app, after I connect to Nest and/or Hub to either wifi network, standard and IoT.

"Connect to same Wi-Fi"

"Your Next Mini was setup successfully but can't be found.  Make sure your mobile device and Nest Mini are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Turn off AP isolation

If AP isolation is enabled on your Wi-Fi router, you will need to disable it.  Learn more here."

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

I would consult with Google about that error as they would know more about that since it there product.

Re: RBE971 and 2 satellites - Cannot connect Google Home - "Turn off AP isolation...?

The firmware is:
V9.10.2.3_1.1.13

Modem Brand: Technicolor

Model: CGM4231MDC

DOCSIS3.1

I don't understand how the Nest Mini worked on this setup until I removed it.  It's been working with the Orbi for almost 2 months now.  When I first added it, I was using the Linksys Velop Mesh network, then I moved to the Deco mesh network and now the Orbi 970.  It worked fine on all three of them but and I never had an issue removing and then readding it until the Orbi network.

Thanks again for help out!

Re: RBE971 and 2 satellites - Cannot connect Google Home - "Turn off AP isolation...?

From pg. 112 of the Technicolor model user manual:

Is my answer in here somewhere?  Sorry, I'm trying but I'm not a networking pro by any measure.  LOL  Thanks!

"12 Isolation
By default, the Technicolor Wireless Gateway allows traffic to pass freely between CPE devices
on the same logical network. This behavior may not be desirable in certain types of deployments
where devices associating with the Wireless Gateway may belong to different
persons/households (examples: public hotspots, hotels, and multi-dwelling units). For these
deployments, the appropriate isolation modes should be enabled. This feature causes the
Wireless Gateway to block traffic sent between CPE devices.
12.1User Provisioning for Isolation
No user provisioning is available for this feature. This feature must be provisioned by the
operator using SNMP.
12.2SNMP Provisioning for Isolation
Isolation can be configured separately for any, and all of the following types of traffic:
• Traffic in which both the source and destination addresses are reachable via the same
primary or secondary BSSID (WLAN-WLAN traffic)
Isolation for WLAN-WLAN traffic:
Isolation for WLAN-WLAN traffic is controlled via the tchRgDot11BssApIsolation MIB object.
This is an interface-specific MIB which must be appended with the appropriate interface index of
the BSSID that is being configured for isolation.
Index Interface
32 Primary BSSID
33 Secondary BSSID #1
34 Secondary BSSID #2
35 Secondary BSSID #3
36 Secondary BSSID #4
37 Secondary BSSID #5
38 Secondary BSSID #6
39 Secondary BSSID #7
This means that different BSSIDs may have different isolation settings. For example, it is
possible to leave isolation disabled on the primary BSSID, while setting up a secondary BSSID
for hotspot services that has isolation enabled.
The default setting for this MIB is integer 0 (disabled) for all SSIDs. To enable WLAN-WLAN
traffic isolation, set this MIB to 1 (enabled).
This setting is effective in the device configuration file as well as when set via SNMP (If set via
SNMP, the setting will persist across device reboots). If SNMP is used, setting
tchRgDot11ApplySettings to true (1) is required for the change to take effect (as is the case
with other tchRgDot11 MIB settings when set via SNMP).
1/8/2018 Proprietary and Confidential - Technicolor 113
Example:
To provision complete isolation between Ethernet ports and the primary SSID, The following
would be added to the CM config file:
SnmpMibObjecttchRgDeviceLanLanIsolation.0 Integer 1; /* enable */
SnmpMibObjecttchRgDeviceLanWlanIsolation.0 Integer 1; /* enable */
SnmpMibObjecttchRgDot11BssApIsolation.32 Integer 1; /* enable */"

Re: RBE971 and 2 satellites - Cannot connect Google Home - "Turn off AP isolation...?

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
Try option #2 first...

Then consult with Google if this doesn't fix this.
