AP and parental controls won't enable

I have to use the AP mode which apparently disables parental controls which is why I bought this product to begin with! Its incredibly frustrating.

I've read a bunch of postings similiar to my issue but no one in the community seems to have found a way to resolve this problem.  I'm wondering if there's any new 'news' on this front as the discussions I've read are all from 2018 and earlier.

It's hard to believe Netgear can't offer a solution- it makes me question this company- but I can't find a way to talk to a live person without buying tech time which seems fruitless if the answer is "it's not possible".  Any updates to this issue out there? I read one post where the person was told to buy a "dead port" and then connect with that, but I'm not sure what that means or how to do it (if that even works)...

Please help!  I have a 15 year old girl that is needs online supervision- I need to shut down her computer at night or she's up all night and I can't turn off the wifi due to other needs in the household. I have software that helps with the phone but not her computer.

Those controls are disabling in AP mode:

https://kb.netgear.com/26765/Disabled-Features-on-the-Router-when-set-to-AP-Mode

If you need the Orbi to have those controls you'll need to configure the RBR for router mode.

IF you have a host route already in front of the RBR, you can use the host routers DMZ or IP pass thru for the RBR and configure the RBR for router mode. See option #2.

This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP Modem or host router your using in front of the RBR?

Can you return the Orbi and replace it with something else?  There are other WiFi systems that advertise "Parental Controls", but I have no knowledge of how (or if) they do what you need.  There is even a Circle Home Plus product that claims to work with any network router.

https://shop.meetcircle.com/products/circle-home-plus-parental-controls

Perhaps if we know exactly what the Orbi is connected to, there might be options on that system to restrict usage.

It would be useful to know the reason why the Orbi must be in AP mode.

Re: AP and parental controls won't enable

Thanks for you response.  I have Control 4 set up to work my TV's and other stuff and the company that set that up connected Netgear/Orbi to the system.  They set it up in AP mode and said I can't change it without alot of hassle and money for them to come back and reprogram everything. I have Verizon Fios.  Does that information help? Thanks for your help

Re: AP and parental controls won't enable

Did you get the Orbi system from Verizon? Verizon has there own FW setup on NGs Orbi Hardware.

Does the Verions FIOS have a modem or ONT? What is the Mfr and model# of this unit?

Built in router here? If so, the post listing suggestions to use the Orbi in router mode could be configured.

I agree with @FURRYe38 that knowing the exact model of FIOS is critical.

Re: AP and parental controls won't enable

For example, this FIOS router has parental controls.  Look at page 115:

https://www.verizon.com/about/sites/default/files/fios-qgr-userguide140925.pdf

In addition, there is a technique of using a DNS provider which blocks "adult" content (among other filters).
