No more wifi schedule in firmware 1.12.0.18

Hi all,

Since the firmware update to 1.12.0.18 the possibility to schedule the wifi signal to turn off is not more available.

Previously this could be found in Advanced > Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings. Now not longer available. See screenshot below.

How can I access these settings and schedule the wifi to turn off? I like to have the wifi turned off at night.

Regards,

Willem

  • Maybe it is related to the fact we are unable to disable the radios we have no need or use for or to reduce congestion interference anymore which is silly.

What makes you think the 2.4 GHz radio isn't needed?

Orbi has an always-on hidden backhaul on 2.4 GHz.  The satellite connects to this backhaul as a client of the router. This backhaul uses the same radio and wifi channel as the normal 2.4 GHz radio used by clients. If you disable this radio, you disable the 2.4 GHz backhaul.

Since Netgear removed the ability to adjust this radio in the new update, it's seems that Netgear must be using this channel to maintain stable connections between the router and satellites. So maybe you don't need it, but the system does.

If you want the ability to completely control the channels and turn off the bands "you" don't need, then you'll need to buy something like the Unifi wired APs.  You'll get wired backhaul too.

st_shaw yes I am seriously considering the unifi AP's it is a shame because I have no legacy devices and when I had 2.4GHz turned off I had no issues with speed and NO severe range problems for my devices in a 3200 Sq ft home on only 5GHz radio and with 12 wireless devices.

  • First off how did you idiots get so off topic. The topic is that they changed the Wi-Fi schedule setting. My comment on this is when I called tech support knowing in India had a clue that they changed it and told me there was something wrong with my update and tried to have me reset the router.

      Hi,

I'm facing the same issue with the latest firmware (V2.0.0.74). Did you manage to get the WIFI schedule back under the Advanced Wireless Settings? For me, they disappeared :-(

BTW: Resetting the router to factory settings did not fix this.

They're actually less than helpful. The technical support makes you reset your router settings Wipe Out the entire thing and in the end you have the same exact problem because apparently nobody told technical support that they just got rid of the setting.
  • Hi,

Today I received my RBK50, after spending more than one hour to look where to disable the WIFI during night. I founded this thread, and I'm really disappointment that such basic feature is removed (even my previous and much cheaper router has such a feature).

Can you pleasde confirm it will be added back and an ETA, because otherwise I'm thinking of shipping the router and satellite back to the store because I consulted the specs in advance, and now the product doens't works as expected...

      Hi Netgear,
Any ETA update for return of this feature into the basic FW build ?

I just bought an Orbi - great stuff but really strange to find that an essential feature such as wifi schedule not to be present! I would like very much to have this feature given possible health benefits by reducing radiation. Futhermore, environmental concerns should be considered as well.

Please push this functionality to be implemented soon, Netgear (plus ideally a mass storage support for the USB plug..), thanks!

  • Can I set the scheduling to block certain devices, for my kids. At night using the Orbi app on my phone? They stay up way too late playing games or on the computer. I tried looking through the settings feature on the iPhone app but found nothing besides the manual switch to block the WiFi for certain devices.
