Orbi looses connection

Hi!

I’m currently using the RBK23, 1 router and 2 satellites.
Has anyone experienced connection loss randomly. One moment, the status on the iPhone app says online, the next moment, it says offline.
It’ll only turn back on after I switched the connection port ( wired to the Orbi router) on my Modem from one to another.
Any idea why it’s happening?
Thanks!

Re: Orbi looses connection

- This can another case of double routers! Is your Modem really only a modem or is it also a router? If it's a router then you need to bridge it otherwise you will have two routers in your network which will only cause you headaches.

If you can't bridge your ISP router then you will need to set Orbi in AP mode.

- What wired devices do you have connected to Orbi? Any wired speakers (e.g. Sonos) in your network?

Re: Orbi looses connection

Thanks for quick reply. I suspect it’s a modem/router. It has 4 connecting ports for external devices.
I currently have 1 android box connected to the Orbi router and another android box to a satellite.
No other wired devices.
Does that affect anything?

Re: Orbi looses connection

If your ISP box has 4 ports then it’s -most probably- a router and you need either to bridge it or set Orbi in AP mode.
I noticed that there are some wired devices that can affect Orbi’s performance in the current software (2.2.1.210).
Please fix the router issue first and see if that will make an improvement. I believe it will.

Re: Orbi looses connection

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?

Modem Combo Units:
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
