GS324T will not reliably connect to 10/100 devices

The GS324T switch will not reliably connect to 10/100 devices.  I have a few such devices - some will negotiate a connection, others will not. No problems are observed with the same 10/100 devices and a GS308T switch.

This problem has been observed before:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Smart-Plus-and-Smart-Pro-Managed/GS324T-Seems-that-10-100-devices-will-not-connect-properly/m-p/1882562

The problem (for me) seems to be related to the switch's "green" features - if a port's Auto power down and EEE modes are disabled, 10/100 devices will consistently connect without issue (to that port).  This is only a workaround and I hope Netgear will fix the underlying problem.

I am using FW 1.0.0.38

    wvisser,

    Welcome to the community! :)

I suggest you to set up port mirroring on your GS324T switch.  Select a port(s) as a source port(s) on the GS324TP where the device(s) that supports 10/100Mbps of ethernet connection is directly connected.  Then, select another port as a destination port on the GS324TP where a PC (with Wireshark installed in it) is directly connected. Run Wireshark until the issue occurs.  It would be best that Wireshark would capture the packets in the event the issue happens.

Kindly read page 319-321 of the GS324T user manual here on how to set up port mirroring.  You can download Wireshark on this link.  As reference guide, check this link I found online on how to use Wireshark.

For the captured packets to be analyzed, kindly open a support ticket with NETGEAR Support here and provide a description of your concern. Then, attach the captured packets from Wireshark on the support ticket you have opened for it to be analyzed by the NETGEAR Support Team.

    Regards,

My 90 day support has expired so pursuring this will via a support ticket will cost $, I think.  Still, I did more testing using the method you suggested and will post the results here:

One problem device is a 100-base T printer - a Samsung M2885FW setup to obtain an IP address via DHCP.  If "EEE Mode" on the switch is enabled for the port the printer is connected to, a successsful DHCP transaction will not occur.  If EEE Mode is disabled, then enabling/disabling Auto Power Down Mode for that port will consistently work.  i.e. of the 2 power saving modes for a port only EEE Mode causes a problem.

With tx/rx port mirroring for the printer port enabled here is a DHCP transaction (EEE mode is enabled, so this will fail)

and with EEE mode disabled - this will work:

No.	Time	Source	Destination	Protocol	Length	Info

10.10.42.1 is the DHCP server that will hand out 10.10.42.11 to the printer if DHCP is successful.

Futhermore, if EEE mode is disabled and an IP is aquired, then EEE mode enabled on the printer port, further communication to the printer will fail.
