Question re: GS308E
All, hoping someone can clarify something for me…. I have a GS108 which is connected over powerline adapters to a simple 5 port switch which I am looking to replace with an 8 port.
If I were to get a GS308E, would the basic management functions be of any use if it’s the only ‘managed’, even basic managed switch?
in other words, would I have to change out the 108 to a 308E as well in order to make full use of the albeit basic management functions available on the GS308E.

are you planning on using any of the managed functions?
I got one to play with for a while and then basically put it in "dumb" mode so it made my network management easier.

I debated with myself whether I would or wouldn't, and part of me wants to play in order to see what can be done with it, but the user case I have in mind at the moment is to do with the connectivity between the Sky Q boxes in the house and how they are talking to each other, as I am randomly having issues with the connection between them... so I was curious to see whether any pf the basic management functions available on the 308E would help me in trying to identify whether there were any issues that could be identified between the 2 boxes.

To allow proper communication on the network, the data path between. The Sky Q TV boxes and the Sky router must be configured to support IGMP Multicast (IGMP Snooping). It's predictable unmanaged switches are not fit for this usage indeed. Troubles with zapping live TV are normal if not deploying unmanaged switches for TV box purpose.
