What's the fan type/size for the Readynas Pro?
The cpu fan on my readynas pro is making a ticking noise (which others have reported) I'd like to replace this fan with one of the many you can buy online. What size is it and what type of connector? (3 pin?) is there a maximum thickness?

- vrwschaaAspirantThe size of the fans is 80mm x 80mm x 15mm (height). The height is important because the fan is placed on plastic pins and hold by hooks. The hooks just leave 15mm.I checked this and it is wrong. The hooks leave ~5mm, therefore the rim of the fan must max 5 mm. See my next message.
There are two fans in use for the Pro. One has 4 wires, the other one I found has 3 wires .
I found the following products:Producer Everflow SmartCooler
Noise 38 dBA 12-28 dbA
speed of rotation 4200 rpm
Voltage 12V/0.50 AMP/6 Watt 12V/1.68 W
Size ca. 80 x 80 x 15 mm ca. 80 x 80 x 15 mm
Model R128015SU LFM1380H/B000NPAC28
Connector 3-pin Molex 3-pin
Air Flow CFM 47m³/min 1.33 42,0 m³/h
Price 7,79 Euro 13,95 Euro
There might be the need to connect the 3 wire fan differently from the 4 wire fan (I/O board instead of main board) and apply the "ToggleSwitchProCPUFan_1.0-x86" patch. - 95preludeAspirantI have replaced both the fans in the RNPP. Noctua NF-R8 for the cpu fan and it's VERY quiet. It just snaps in perfectly and the side panel gives no problems whatsoever. I replaced the exhaust fan with a Noctua NF-P12. It gives better cooling temperature and its VERY quiet. The colour scheme on fans are very professional. I love it. Also all the fans in my desktop are Noctua's.

I found that the hooks just keep the fan's rim. The hooks leave ~5mm, therefore the rim of the fan has to be max 5 mm. - MikeMcr1Aspirant

That's interesting as I had assumed only 15mm fans could be used.
Since the NF-R8 is a 3-pin fan, do you have "ToggleSwitchProCPUFan_1.0-x86.bin" installed so that it shows the RPM? How fast does it run? - 95preludeAspirant

Yes, I did install "ToggleSwitchProCPUFan_1.0-x86.bin". CPU fan spins around 1350-1400 RPM. DBA is the spec on the fan so it's very quiet. I did not use the low speed resistors that came with the fan. I placed the Readynas is my closet and now I can't hear the dam thing when I'm sleeping. It's been 3 month now that I had both the fans replaced and temps are good. - MikeMcr1Aspirant

Thanks, I will give them a try. I had previously replaced the CPU fan with an Evercool EC8015TH12B but the reduced RPM (and increased heat) caused the big exhaust fan to constantly ramp up and down which was very annoying! - Retired_MemberThanks for the tip, 95prelude.
I changed both fans to the suggested Noctuna types. The NF-P12 works like a charm, the Noctua NF-R8 too. But I have one problem with the NF-R8. The side panel doesn't fit anymore. It is for me 2-3mm to high. I have the ReadyNass Pro Pioneer Edition is there a difference? Or did you made some extra changes? - 95preludeAspirant

The side panel will fit without any modifications. I do have the RNPP. - jerryk1Aspirant

I also found the Notuna MF-R8 too thick for my Pro BE. You definitely do not want the fan touching the side panel. I think you need a 15mm fan. - mrfreezeAspirantI also found the Noctuna fans o be very quite, and also provide cooler temperatures.
The problem I have is as mentioned above, the side panel will not fit back on properly as the fan is thicker (25mm) than the standard fan (15mm) installed.
