Cant connect to ReadyNas NV+ v2 SMB1 Protocol ??

Hi. I've been having a few computer issues recently that I thought had caused an issue with accessing my NAS drive. I've been trying to fix this and been struggling until earlier. My Windows 10 laptop can't find my NAS on my network, even though I know it's there due to Raidar. When I tried to connect I had a Windows message regarding SMB1 and no longer supporting this. I researched fixes and found the instruction to download SMB Plus, so tried to access genieApps, but can't. I just get errors when trying to access and trying to open an account leads to a website that doesn't exist. I've since managed to find the SMB Plus add on online, and downloaded it to my laptop, but can't find out how to put this on to the NAS drive. So at this point, I don't really know what else to do! Can anyone advise please?

  • SMBPlus is only for OS 6 NAS, and you are running OS 5 (that is, 5.3.x firmware).  It wouldn't help with this anyway, as your NAS only supports SMB1.

What you have to do is re-enable the SMB1 client in your Windows 10 PCs.  If you go into add/remove programs, and look at the windows features, you should see an option to install  "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support".  If you install that, you'll have access to the NAS again (accepting the security risk of running an SMB client).

While you are in there, you can also check to see if your Windows version includes an NFS client.  You could also install that, and enable NFS on the NAS.

SMB Plus is for OS6 based NASes.  You can still turn SMB1 on in Windows 10 using the "Turn Windows features on and off" selections.

I was under the belief, however, that the latest RAIDiator 5.x suppoprted SMB2.  If, for some reason it's not enabled, putting the following in  /etc/samba/smb.conf should do the trick (after rebooting):

    min protocol = SMB2

    max protocol = SMB2

Another option is to use another protocol such as NFS in Windows, which is enabled from the same location as SMB1 (under "Services for NFS").  I'm not sure if the home versions of Windows have that option, though.

The Samba server in OS 5 includes experimental support for SMB2 (as does OS 4.2).  I don't know how buggy that early implementation is.

The OP would need to change the Samba config to turn that support on.
