I extracted the executable from the ZIP. On running the application (I guess its the installation application) I get the error message "Error reading setup initialization file".
I've tried on 2 different computers with the same results.

You may want to take a look at this: https://github.com/Dees7/openstora . But I seem to remember that in order to install the fix so you can continue to use it after Netgear shut down the Stora server that you had to to do it before the shut-down.
