Installing .bin files

Hi All,

Please be patient, I am a complete newbie and this is my first NAS machine!!!

I have manged to download addons from the market place but have no idea how to do it from the community add on. I have a readynas 314 and can't seem to do anything other than what is on the frontview.
I have tried uploading .bin files via the firmware tab as suggested elsewhere but keep getting an error message that it is not a NASOS file!

I really want to install plex connect as stated here http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/70190-plexconnect-on-a-nas-drive-readynas/?p=406097
but I don't even know how to install Git for readynas. I have installed python via the market place but am now stuck!
I have looked for a walk through guide but cant find one anywhere.

Really sorry if this sounds like too much work (or just plain stupid) but we all have to start somewhere!!!

Thanks in advance for any help

  • Thanks for the quick response. Is there anyway I can get the Git on my 314?? or is there no way I can get the plex connect on my readynas?

If you are comfortable with SSH you could try:
    1. Seeing if git will install via apt-get
Or 2. Compile it from source.

SSHing in allows you to execute shell commands (Linux command line commands) on the ReadyNAS, similar to what you would do in the Terminal on a Mac/Linux machine.

There is information available on the web for this stuff.

Look for tutorials, MAN pages etc.

    APT is pre-installed.

To use SSH you would enable SSH in the Dashboard then SSH in as the 'root' user (password will initially be the same as for the 'admin' user).

SSH is for advanced users and is use at own risk,
  • Thanks for that. I think I need to do a bit of research into SSHing and try and get it in that way!!
