Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Hello macmanleeleap,

I have some questions to ask, I have summarize them below.

  • What is the model number of the ReadyNAS units?
  • What is the firmware version of each unit?
  • You mentioned, you now have one unit offsite, does that mean you moved one of the units to another network?

Regards,

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Cannot tell you model numbers are they are both away from my location, from what I can gather that doesn't affect them too much though.

Both running latest 6.xx firmware, again not sure of numbers but the latest one that was out about a week ago. Sory for being so vague as both units are away from my location.

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Hello macmanleeleap,

You may need to have someone to be able to get to the admin page of the two NAS units. This is to check if the source and destination are reachable through the Internet, their firmware version.

Please also see this article: ReadyNAS: Replicate Troubleshooting

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Model in one location, this is the uniot that needs backing up extrnally is ReadyNas 314 and the remote one is Netgear RN202-100NES. Both have 6.6.0 and connection to the internet. Ive done the DNS thing before you suggest that. I can see both units using online replicate login so both units ARE connected to the internet properly. The log does show this though as the connection is there.

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Hello macmanleeleap,

Have you already registered this RN314? This problem you are experiencing may require someone from L3 to remote in and fix it.

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

The RN314 is out of warranty BUT i understand they get full internet support with that unit. I have had the p2p reset by an expert which got that part working in the same lan but now it is offsite it has stopped with that error above. Is this something I can solve or is ti a job for support to login and sort out?

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Hello macmanleeleap,

I checked your profile and found that only RN202 is registered. It also showed that it is possible that the RN314 was purchased in year 2015 but you were unable to register it probably because you were unsure of the date of purchase.

I'll check with others what your options are.

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

It is very possible that they were unable to regsiter it at the time, wahtever options we can have would be great as it is getting quite frstaring now as we have been trying to get them replicataing since June this year and STILL no success unless they in the same LAN...

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

This is a community. We have official support options available.

Do you still have this problem?

Can you send in your logs from each unit (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Yes, still have issues. Wil only backup on the LAN but nowhere else. I'll get the logs from each unit and send them over....

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

I cna send in the ones from the unit I have offsite but the onsite one is a little more difficult. Can you work with just one report for now or would both sent at the same time be better as it is a 40 mile round trip to get the other log.

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

One of the disks (that are less than a year old) has failed and gone back for replacement under warranty  BUT it does not explain why it will backup locally and not remotely. Looking past the hard drive issue as there is no reference to the drive in Bay 1 failing as far as the NAS is telling me, how can we get replicate working please as it does not work. IT DOES backup if on a LAN reagrdless of the 'hard drive issue' so that cannot be the root of the replacate not functioning properly.

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Replacement drive (for the single failed drive) is installed now and now resyncing. Would you prefer me to upload the logs again after the resync has occurred so the 'disks failing' messages are not blindsiding the real issue of it not backing up in a remote location whereas it is perfectly fine on the LAN?

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

failing disks can cause all kinds of wierd issues. that said if the jobs complete succuessfully on the lan, then there shouldn't be any reason they don't remotely.

It sounds like one or both devices are having a problem connecting (or accepting the connection) remotely.

I would suggest that you figure out which.

I would start with the replicate cloud portal when both devices are at their remote locations.

if you can see and get status/browse both devices at the remote location via the replicate portal, then there may be some kind of lower level connection interuption happening that netgear will probably have to help with.

Otherwise, I would expect that one of the devices is not able to properly connect to the replicate portal and you won't be able to see the device status (it should show device, data volume space, etc), you should be able to right click  > properties to see more details.

Once you can narrow down which device is having problems connecting, then you can examine your network, is there a firewall blocking ports, etc ?

There is obviously a connection problem somewhere, the way to the solution is to determine if that is being caused by your network, or something internal to the device or the netgear vpn/remote network.

Another possible check is to reverse the devices, swap their locations to see if that has any change to the failure.

or even try a 3rd location to see if it can connect to either of the other locations.

Make sure both devices are accessible/visible via mynetgear portal.

Make sure both devices show internet services available on the admin page where you can enable/disable replicate and other netgear services (I forget which page off the top of my head).

Re: Replicate issues STILL....

Firstly thanks for your lengthy reply.

Screenshot of Info via replaicate portal. Both devices showing, I can browse both devices and look at files on there too. Readynas 202 is the remote one i have here that had a hard drive issue. New drive is fitted and all is fine with the drives, synced fine and working well. Where can I go from here. Moving ReadNas 314 offsite to swap is not an option as it is in constant use. Latest log is also shown below too.
