Mac OS X problems with 4.2.19, 4.2.21 andy 4.2.22

What can I do in order to fix issues when Mac connects to ReadyNAS device?

Only RAIDiator 4.2.17 works with folder and file permissions, but TimeMachine does not work with Mac OS X Lion. I know the latter is a known issue with this version of firmware, so I would like to upgrade to a more recent release, but I have other, bigger issues with more recent releases.

SETUP
Two units:
  • ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition (3x1TB and 2x2TB; 2TB used) FW 4.2.17 Serial <REMOVED BY MODERATOR> (disks 3x WDC WD1003FBYX-01Y7B0 931 GB; 1x WDC WD2003FYYS-02W0B0 1863 GB; 1x WDC WD20EADS-00R6B0 1863 GB)

  • ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus (3x2TB) FW 4.2.17

Accessing from:
  • iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)

  • Macbook Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)

  • Macbook Air with Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)

SYMPTOM
  • Incorrect file permissions in Mac OS X Lion (wrong Owner, wrong Group permissions, Everyone has R/W when it should be either Read Only or No Access)

  • Files and folders disappear from Finder; the files are still there, but they are not visible in Finder... these "lost" files re-appear when I downgrade back to 4.2.17

  • TimeMachine does not work anymore

TROUBLESHOOTING I HAVE DONE
To tried to resolve the file permission issues by re-applying the correct file permissions through Frontview, but this does not have any impact on the file permissions in Mac OS X
I have looked through this Forum, on Wiki's, and in Google, without any reference on how to address these issues even though I do see many people experience similar issues.

QUESTIONS
  • How can I resolve these issues I am seeing from my Mac OS X systems?

  • Is the support for Mac OS X being phased out leaving only CIFS and NFS as means to access the ReadyNAS devices?

  • What is Netgear's and the ReadyNAS Team's commitment to Mac OS X?

Thanks!

Have you tried opening a support case?

Mac OS X support is definitely not being phased out.

NetGear has recently released announced it has added the ability to do Remote Time Machine backups to the ReadyNAS. Also newer products (i.e. the Duo/NV+ v2 and the ReadyDATA) also have Mac OS X support.

NetGear is a customer of NetAFP. NetAFP develops the AFP/Time Machine support used by NetGear and the other NAS manufacturers.
