PS3 Video Display Issues

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been covered before but I've done a search and turned up with nothing that relates to my issue. I have also done searches on Google which turned up answers but nothing that helped me.

I have a RN102 (Raid1) running the latest 6.1.5 software. I have this plugged in to a fully wired network and can access it via my MAC and Windows laptop with no issues.

I have transferred all of my video files (all .avi) however my PS3 has decided to only show a few of these.. I have many others which it will not display. The PS3 is running the most up to date software (just updated it) but this still did not solve the issue.

The strange thing is, the folders it does show on the PS3, if I add a video file (again, .avi) to that folder via explorer on my laptop, the video file will show on the PS3 immediately. If I try to change that folder name, the PS3 will not change!

Does anyone have any idea as to what this is? Initially I thought it could be a refresh issue, however the fact that the video files will show in the folder rules that out.

Thank you for any help you can give!

Are you using ReadyDLNA as the PS3's DLNA server? Or Plex?
  • DLNA.

I signed up to Plex but not set them up just yet as I didn't have time before I had to go out...

However, Plex aside, surely I should be able to view all of the media anyway?

The issue is almost certainly because the ReadyDLNA server is not rescanning the media. The media is there, which is why you see the folders on the laptop.

Often this problem is provoked by an out-of-spec media file, which causes the scanning process to crash.

Perhaps start by upgrading to the 6.1.6 beta firmware - it does have a couple of fixes to ReadyDLNA.

If the failure persists, you can look though the ReadyDLNA log to try and sort it out - or switch to plex and see if it works better for you.
  • Thanks for your post Stephen, I always tend to stay away from beta releases but will give Plex a go this weekend.

The thought of upgrading the software scares me slightly too as that means backing everything up and wiping the drives... Or so that's what I understand of it!

If you are not experiencing performance problems, then you don't need to wipe the drives.

Backups are always a good idea...
