Fvs336g:

So two questions.... firstly, and most importantly, this evening I had my 336g (purchased in mid 2008, IIRC) take a dump on me, inexplicably. I found the device cycling through what (for lack of a better term) I'll call it's POST. PWR and TEST were lit solid, and LAN and WAN light were cycling on and off. Flipped the switch in the back to no effect, ditto with 30 second power cycle.

However a longer (~5min) power cycle did get it back up, but only for about 10 minutes. While the environment hasn't changed at all in the past few months, I would suspect age/heat taking their toll, so I added a bit of space between some adjacent gear to get a bit of airflow, and gave it a solid half-hour to let it cool. Since then it's been up for the last 10 minutes or so, and everything "looks" fine, but I'm sure it looked fine immediately prior to failure.

The device has, to date, served me well in 3 countries (including afghanistan), but with this behaviour, My Confidence Is Shaken. Is there anything I can do on my end to diagnose this further? And at what point should I call Netgear for repair/replace? If this is just an isolated incident, that's fine, but in the event of future troubles I'd like to know what my options are.

Also, since I'm here... Has Netgear offered an updated SSL client for the 336G on windows 7? Or some third party solution? It really sucks to have that capability (which would/did perfectly meet my needs) in the device, and still be screwing around with IPSEC.

  • Current firmware on 336G is Win7 compatible for SSL VPN access. I use it everyday. You need to address the browser issues. I've discussed this in the VPN section of the ProSecure forums, and probably here as well.
