AC1900 (A7000) software download messed up my Mac

I installed the software via disk on my iMac; as expected it initiated a reboot following installation, however the mac got hung during the reboot. I had to wipe my SSD and reinstall iOS and my SSD contents via my time capsule. I have contacted support and answered questions but they have stopped responding. Is the software on the disk out of date? I am running High Sierra OS. This is second Netgear product that I have had problems with (my EX7000 extender will not allow connection to the internet from it so it is basically worthless and Netgear support has also been no help here either. I suspect the last firmware update is to blame as it was working fine)
