I attached my new GS108 switch but it connects to 169.254.29.193 on my ASUS gateway, instead of the correct address 192.168.1.1.
How di i change this into the right address?
Peter

Re: gateway addres 169.254.29.193 instead 192.1681.1.
The GS108 is a unmanaged switch. Even the more expensive configurable or smart manageable don't make use of Zeroconf addresses like 168.254.x.x/16 - and it's IP is only for local management purposes, and not for routing.
If a system connected through such a switch to the router - assuming the port on the router/gateway where it's connected is working - and there is no DHCP server available, no MAC address reserved or allowed to access the router, (and obvious without a static/fixed IP configured).. many modern OS fall back to Zeroconf addresses. This is not something assigned by either the switch or a router.
Start with checking the link speed negotiated - check if the LEDs on the switch, computer port, and router show an active and assumable working link.

it seems could be an issue with the network card on the desk top i was trying to network it no longer works with a strait line either anymore but i plugged a few linux computers into the switch after strait cable didnt work and it gave them full network and internet access. thank you for the assistance but it seems the problem is on my end
