gs305

Hello, I have a GS305 Unmanaged Gigabit Switch with my home computer and work computer pluged in.

Even though my connection says 1Gbps, when doing an Internet Speed Test on my home pc, I'm getting 95Mbps while pluged in the GS305 and 130Mbps when pluged in directly to the wall.

As for my work computer, I'm getting disconnected from the vpn 5-6 times per day but everything works fine when I use wifi. Anybody got that kind of issues with those GS305?

I've seen sketchy cables work at gigabit speeds with some devices and not on others.

For testing, try moving the switch to right next to the router and connect with a high quality cat 5e or greater cables and test the speeds/link.

    what router are you using?

Assume this is the link speed you see on the two computers - so computer <-> GS305 is able to establish a Gigabit link speed.

There is more where the GS305 does connect to - this 95 Mb/s is a typical performance you will get on a connection where a Fast Ethernet link is in the play. If all devices are Gigabit capable (like the computers, the unknown router, the GS305), and there is a link limited to Fast Ethernet, this can be caused by a partial or broken network cable or patch cable, where only two pairs are operational.

Somewhat vague what is tested here, could be from a direct connection computer <-> router - is this the expected speed on the Internet connection?

  • Yes, I have this issue too. I use the GS305 to connect two computers to one Ethernet line in the room. My normal Internet speed is north of 200 Mbps, but the speed soon drops to 94 Mbps, no matter which computer I use.

Here's what's interesting: first, I never have both computers on at the same time. Second, if I reset the switch (power off then power on), I'm immediately back up to 200+ Mbps on the computer I'm using, but only temporarily. I have no idea why the speed drops below 50%.

    Any help would be appreciated.

      1. try replacing the cables between them

      2. if that doesn't help, please start your own thread for assistance.
