Beginner with MySQL server
Hi
I have tried searching a lot on in Netgear Community and others as well but couldnt get a solution. In fact I am a total noob when it comes to Linux or MySQL server. I am trying to get started with MySQL so that I can use my NAS as a centralized library and file server for multiple XBMC/Kodi installations.
Now, I installed MySQL server on NAS but the Launch button doesnt work. Settings link shows a blank page with text 'default access is root without password.'
Where ever I read I see a lot of talk about writing commands for MySQL and SSH and what not. In fact I see tons of commands to communicate with MySQL that its totally overwhelming. For me, I cant even find a place where a damn command can be written.
NAS admin page first tab 'system' doesnt show MySQL. Apps tab does show it but the launch button is not clickable.
MySQL's toggle switch (on Apps page) is ON. NAS has been rebooted.
I also installed phpMyadmin which I understood as the GUI based replacement to command lines etc while interacting with MySQL. Dont know the first thing about that either. When I launch phpmyadmin it takes me to a user and password screen where I do not know what should I enter.
I am sure many experienced users might even laungh at how silly these questions would sound to them. But I would really appreciate any help in this regard.
Thanks in advance.
AK
PS: If anyone is willing to gain a teamviewer access, I would really appreciate that! Else I am happy to try whatever resolution is suggested here.

Hi BrianL
Did try your suggestion. It kind of helped getting started with installing MySQL and phpadmin,
But didnt really help me with what I was trying to achieve - which was using a centralised media centre library on NAS. One that all Kodi installations will use as their own library - rather than each kodi installation maintaining its own separate library.
Will await more responses.
Thanks for taking the time out

Hi BrianL
Tried your solution.
This was more of how to do the initial installation of MySQL and phpadmin.
My requirement is slightly different:
When we install Kodi on a device it maintains its own library on that very device - the media it consumes may be on NAS but the library it maintains isnt on the serve. I want a centralised media center library, which various installations of Kodi on multiple devices use as one central library rather than maintaining separate libraries of their own.
Three libraries - Music, Pictures and Videos.
All Kodi installations must read from and write to these three on the NAS.
Will await responses.
Thanks for the time.

Hi ak2016,
Not sure if this can be done. I will ask and gather more information from my colleagues if there's something we can provide for you to achieve this.
Kind regards,

Welcome!
No. In fact after spending several hours I gave up temporarily. SQL and myphpadmin are both left on the NAS in hope for a solution but in lack of more time to spend on it. Will probably remove them for now, till a solution comes along.
