Can't add/delete files, "you don’t have permission to acces"

I'm running OSX 10.8.2 on a MacBook Air. I have a ReadyNAS Duo V2. running 5.3.6. I'm unable to delete or add files to various folder though the AFS or samba shares. For instance, when logged in as "admin" I can create a folder in /c/Media called "Test" but I cannot delete it. Finder gives me an error:

The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.

I've tried this logged in as "admin" or as a user that I created. I've tried it in different folders with the same effect (including my users folder). I've tried going into the web console and hitting "Reset Permissions" under the "Shares" tab.

"Read/Write" permissions are enabled for "Everyone" for all the shares for both AFS and SMB. I'm at a loss here, and short of poking around via SSH, I don't know what to do.

  • *Update*

It would appear that I can *create* and move files, but I just can't delete them. I moved several folders around and also saved a text file to the drive, but I can't remove any of them.
  • I have now updated to the latest version of the firmware, V. 5.3.7 and have the same problem. I've made sure that the share folders have read/write permissions for everyone and are part of the user/group admin:admin (I'm logging into the share in OSX via that username). I've also done "reset permissions" several times.
  • I had the same problem following moving from PC / Linux to Mac.
Mine is ReadyNAS Duo, running radiator 4.1.10 but I assume fix should be the same:

Log in to nas as admin
If running wizard mode, switch to advanced
Navigate to Shares / Share listing

This should show a list of shares. My NAS has "backup share" with CIFS, AFP and HTTP/S enabled. There is an icon below each one.
If you click on any of the icons, it takes you through to "Share access restrictions".
Under the "Advanced options tab" there is a check box: Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files.

I checked this which solved the problem. Hope same applies to Duo2.
  • Thanks. I played with those settings for hours, but what finally "fixed" it was restarting my MacBook. Ugh. WIsh that was more satisfying.
  • I have followed all of these steps but cannot see what is taking up all of the space on my drives?

Can't seem to view hidden files or there are none?
