Cannot access folders from Windows XP
Setup
Readynas Duo 2 TB connected via SKY wireless hub to PC running Windows XP SP3
Raidar works fine and I can see the folders e.g. 'media' with my itunes music library which I transferred from a macbook pro without any hitches.
Problem
Windows network shows an icon and identifies the nas drive name to me, however i cannot browse to the folders on the nas nor can I map a drive letter to the folders. This means that I cannot transfer my music library updates from itunes on the pc to the readynas. I can get to 'Shares' via http and also to the nas via http and frontview, it seems to be the CIFS side that does not communicate?
Any ideas gratefully accepted... thanks

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertWhat happens when you enter \\$nas_ip\$sharename (replace $nas_ip and $sharename appropriately) in Explorer's location bar?
- readynasvirginAspirantwhen put in command as stated get windows mispelt message, however if I use //192.16.0.2/shares/ it takes me to the readynas frontend shares page and shows my 2 shares PMUSIC and media. Media has a sub folder 'my music' which is my music file. I can use the upload facility to upload music files but it will only let me upload a single track a a time? Perhaps I have jumped the gun here?
- dbott67GuideClick START > Run and then type the following in the Run dialog box:
\\192.168.0.2
You should get a window similar to the following:
If it fails, can you give the exact error message?
Have a look at the unofficial getting started guide here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=346. Make sure that you pay special attention to the 'Configuration' section. - readynasvirginAspirantHi dbott67
I get a message the network path was not found in response to the run command. - dbott67GuideCan you post the network settings for both your NAS and computer? For the computer, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all and paste the output here. For example, here are my settings:

readynasvirgin - dbott67GuideIs your ReadyNAS using DHCP or static IP address? If static, can you try setting it to DHCP?
Also, is your router acting as DHCP server? If so, what is the DHCP server address range (i.e. 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100)? - readynasvirginAspirantYes router acting as DHCP with address range as suggested and ReadyNas using DHCP address shown as 192.168.0.2. Still no joy? Workgroup is MSHOME on readynas.
- dbott67GuideWhen you open a command prompt are you able to ping the NAS?
C:\>ping 192.168.0.2

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

If so, can you open a command prompt and type this command:net use N: \\192.168.0.2\backup
You should see something like this:C:\>net use N: \\192.168.0.2\backup
The command completed successfully.
Open "My Computer" and then look for the "N" drive.
If there's an error, please paste the error message here. - readynasvirginAspirantAt last!
Just looked into the LAN permissions in Sophos which I missed before!! Have put address of nas in as trusted and now can see all the folders such as media, music etc. Still may have some issues with permissions, however quantum leap forward.
Will play some more and may ask for further advice reegarding loading music files etc.
Thankyou.
