DLNA - Samsung TV - Nfo files sort issue

ReadyNas Duo - Samsung Smart TV
Installed ReadyDLNA 1.0.24.3 latest version
Added my TV shows folder to the DLNA setup filtering on video files only

Each Video file has a corresponding nfo file in XBMC format on the NAS (an nfo file is just a text file in xml tag format contain fields like <title>Pilot</title> etc)
so 'S01E01 - Pilot.avi" has an nfo file 'S01E01 - Pilot.nfo' in the same folder

The nfo file contains all the details about the file such as title, season number, episode number, plot etc. for display in XBMC (for the Main lounge room media PC - the Samsung is in bedroom).

Somehow, the Samsung is also reading the nfo file, extracting the title field & displaying that instead of the filename. Which is good, except that it also sorts alphabetically by that name & not by the filename which starts with the Season & Episode (S01E01) which would allow an alphabetical sort to effectively sort the episodes by episode number....

If the nfo file is missing, the Samsung just display the filename without the extension, which is OK & also means it would sort correctly, but then XBMC wouldn't work correctly....

Question: when the ReadyNas is set to video files only, how are the nfo files accessed by the Samsung TV? Is there a way to block the nfo files using DLNA settings so the Samsung can't see them?

Cheers

Re: DLNA - Samsung TV - Nfo files sort issue

The NFO files aren't accessed directly by the Samsung - these files are being included in the ReadyDLNA scan, and put into its database. ReadyDLNA is based on MiniDLNA open source, there is a main link here: http://minidlna.sourceforge.net/

There are some config options in etc\minidlna.conf, but the comments have nothing listed related to NFO.

While an option to ignore nfo would be nice (and probably is easy to do), it seems better to me to fix the NFO files so they contain the title you want. Admittedly it is a lot of work - though the end result would be metadata that is more useful to you.

Re: DLNA - Samsung TV - Nfo files sort issue

Thanks for the reply....

The issue is the nfo's are used for XBMC correctly....
i.e. the title has just the title, the season has just the season, the episode has just the episode......

DLNA is using the title instead of the filename, which I guess is fine for movies but not for episodes......

Ideally, I would like the DLNA to ignore the nfo's altogether, then I could (& have) named the filenames of the episodes & movies so they sort correctly....

Thanks for the link, I will look into that & do some research myself...

Cheers

I found a patch that may help.......not sure if it ever got into the main trunk...

Re: DLNA - Samsung TV - Nfo files sort issue

Hi StormyKnight

I also run ReadyNAS Duo (v1 Sparc, latest RAIDiator & ReadyDLNA) and have a Samsung Smart TV (2012 model).
I also have XBMC (Xbox v1) and have .NFO files in each of my movie folders (created using MyMovies) however on the Samsung AllShare I only ever see the filename of the movie and not the true movie title as per the .NFO file.

Is there anything you can suggest I try? My DLNA movie share is set to the Videos content type only. Would love to get this working.

Thanks

Re: DLNA - Samsung TV - Nfo files sort issue

howsk, looks like what you are getting is what I want......i.e. I want the DLNA server to ignore the nfo & just use the filename so that the samsung with just display the filenames in alphabetical order (movies fine & this will mean episodes will be in chronological order too).....

my nfo's are xbmc compatible so they contain a line <title>2012</title> for example....does you nfo contain a similar line?

[quote="my nfo's are xbmc compatible so they contain a line <title>2012</title> for example....does you nfo contain a similar line?[/quote]

My movie files are all named in the format MovieTitle.Year.Source.Format.Audio e.g. Batman.Begins.2005.DVDRip.XviD.AC3.avi, so all I see on my Samsung TV is this filename - not great!
The .NFO files are created automatically using MyMovies with the same name i.e. Batman.Begins.2005.DVDRip.XviD.AC3.nfo, each one has a <movie> tag then the movie attributes:

<movie>
<title>Batman Begins</title>
<originaltitle>Batman Begins</originaltitle>
<sorttitle>Batman Begins</sorttitle>
<year>2005</year>
<plot>In Batman Begins, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan explores... etc</plot>
<runtime>134 min.</runtime>
<certification>UK:12</certification>
<genre>Suspense/Thriller / Crime / Adventure / Action</genre>
</movie>
