Bonjour,Bonsoir,
Modèle : ReadyNas Ultra 6
Micrologiciel: RAIDiator 4.2.31

There are two possible fixes. One is to provide a patch that would add TLS 1.2 support to the ReadyNAS. The other is to provide a patch that removes HTTPS from the NAS's web server configuration. Neither is available at this point.

The newest ReadyNAS (for example, RN214, RN426, RN526, RN628) all run 6.x.x firmware also called OS-6. Those NAS don't have this problem.
Although Netgear doesn't support this, it is possible to convert your Ultra to run the newer firmware. I've done what with my own Pro 6. It gives me more features, and support for newer protocols (including SMB 3). The process requires a factory reset, so you would need to have a full backup of all your data.
More information about OS-6 features can be found in the software manual here: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/READYNAS_OS_6_SM_EN.pdf

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
You should still be able to access the shares using file manager.
As far as browsers are concerned: Your older NAS only supports TLS 1.0. The browsers have recently dropped support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1. So they will no longer connected to Frontview.
As you found, you can still use Internet Explorer.
There are some folks (not Netgear) working on patches. But in your case, I suggest that you consider converting your Ultra 6 to run OS-6.

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
Hello,
same issue. So I read your post and I am about to upgrade my firmware.
I have an ultra4 which I bought in 2011 with 4.2.31 firmware. As the system is already running the latest firmware, can I load the image directly from local drive ?
Can I upgrade directly to 6.10.7?
https://www.netgear.com/support/product/ReadyNAS_OS_6.aspx#Software%20Version%206.10.7%20(x86)
I am glad to have a new OS with more modern features as the 4.2.31 was too limited and obsolet

No, you can't directly install the firmware.
Before you begin, I recommend that the system be upgraded to have at least 2 GB of RAM. (2 GB is easily done and affordable in an Ultra 4). All x86 systems built for OS-6 have at least 2 GB, and several folks running with the stock 1 GB of RAM in 4.2.x. systems have found it isn't enough.
The steps are
(Optionally) make sure the latest BIOS is installed before you do the conversion. To do this you install http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin as an add-on and reboot the NAS. Do this after you backup the NAS. This isn't necessary, but if you so want to update the bios it is easiest to do it prior to conversion
Basic instructions for the conversion itself are
- BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP
- Upload PREPR4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin as an add-on using the ReadyNAS web gui, but do not reboot afterwards (avoids the need to do manual factory resets)
- Upload R4toR6_6.9.5.bin using the ReadyNAS web gui firmware update
- After you upload the addon+firmware and reboot, it will update the firmware and start a factory default.
- Go through the setup process on the converted NAS
- Update the NAS to the current OS 6 (check for updates will work).
- Restore files from the backup.
Netgear won't provide paid support on a converted NAS, so that is one consideration. There is a small risk that the process could fail, and if that were to happen it might not be possible to get the NAS running again.

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
Hello,
Yes I am in the process of transfering everything back to other NAS. In fact, this old Ultra4 which I recently upgraded with 4 Seagate Ironwolf of 4To, since I damaged a 3to harddisk which was not correctly plugged in its bay. And I recycled the 2x2to harddisks for a selfmade NAS (running TrueNas or Open Mediavault, I am still thinking about)
Once the volume is totally empty, I will upgrade the memory with spare parts, 2x2go or 2x4go, according to what I have in spare parts. Should I have to buy some, I won't hesitate to put 2x4go.
However this old Ultra4 is just a dummy featureless storage, backup of a more recent Qnap TVS673. I am just double checking that they are perfectly mirrored as I still haven't found the right application for mirroring a netgear ultra4 with a qnap running QTS 5.0. That what is on the Ultra 4 should already be on the Qnap TVS673 which is the source.
Maybe an upgrade of the ultra 4 to OS6 will offer me more possibilities in regards of playing multimedia and synchronizing storages.
I have downloaded the 2 files you sent me.
You mean, the jump will be from RAIDiator 4.2.31 to OS 6.9.5 directly ?? Is there no firmware like 6.0.1 I should install before updating with major OS version updates ?
So tomorrow when transfers are completed, I will have a look at the RAM and hopefully I will be able start with firmware updates following your instructions.
Should the update fail, I have 4 4to harddisks which I will find a need for. If it is successfull updating to OS6 will definitely be a win as current RAIDiator 4.2.31 is outdated and limited.
I will keep you informed.
Thanks

The Ultra 4 has only one memory slot.

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
Hello,
1- I have moved all data, volume is empty.
2- I downloaded all the stuff: BIOS, Utility, Firmware.
3- I performed the BIOS upgrade. Strange it told me first it was not successfull, but then a second popup yes it was.
4- After a few attempts, I finally won my fight against the NAS who didn't want to open. I was closed to take a hammer and a grinder to open it but it finally worked. I blast the little dust and ashes in the corner of the tower, removed the top cover and found the memory slot. I found many 2Gb RAM, but no 4Gb.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Sebastien

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
By the way:
1- after the BIOS upgrade the NAS is still working.
2- I found a 4 Gb RAM memory stick with a 800Mhz frequence. It is not the best move in terms of cost and value, but I don't mind.
I will keep you informed about the progress.

I don't think it will work. The Ultra 4 has a Atom D410 processor, which AFAIK is limited to 2x2GB of RAM.
Unless you have an Ultra 4 Plus???

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
No, simply ultra4.
Why do you think it won't work? Clockspeed of the RAM or RAM size itself? Because I found also some 4gb at 667 Mhz...
Is it possible by the way to upgrade the processor? It looks like the processor cannot be reached.

The size. My understanding is that the D410 is limited to 2 GB per slot. (2x2GB max). But the Ultra 4 only has one memory slot, so 2 GB total is all it can take.

It is soldered to the system board.

Really?
I am not a hardware specialist and you perhaps deduce this information from some specifications.
On my side I found this:
So it is feasable, what do you think?

This review says 2 GB max (towards the bottom): http://networkstoragetips.com/netgear-readynas-ultra-4-review/
However, some forum users here did say they had success with 4 GB.
Either way, let us know how it works out.

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
But the actual data sheet has some restrictions on the 4GB limit:
— Supports 512-Mb, 1-Gb & 2-Gb technologies for DDR2 — Support 4 banks for 512 Mbit densities for DDR2 — Support 8 banks for 1-Gb and 2-Gb densities for DDR2 — Support 2 DIMMs, 4 GB (assuming 2-Gb density device technology) maximum

Yes.
One puzzle is reconciling the data sheet with this old thread: https://community.netgear.com/t5/New-ReadyNAS-Users-General/Ultra-4-4-gig/td-p/811325 The patriot part in the first post is definitely a 4 GB module.
It does make me wonder if some Ultra 4 systems (maybe betas???) might have been shipped with Ultra 4 Plus hardware.

Re: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
Done. I am in 6.10.6. It tells me no further update although I downloaded a 6.10.7.
I will do a video so other readynas ultra4 owners see it is not complicated to upgrade to a more a recent and enhanced NAS.

There usually is a delay of a couple weeks between the time Netgear makes a new release availalbe for manual installation and when they put that release on the "check for update" servers.
So there is nothing unusual about 6.10.7 not showing up in "check for updates" yet.
