NVX + Cobian, can't backup to private folders

Hi

I would like to have few backups of each computer in use. The users of each computer are not allowed to see each other files. Therefore I would like to have backups in private folder(s). I do not have good experience in network issues so I hope you can help me on this.

Cobian is quite simple software and I can make the copies to public folder, but as soon as I set up the destination folder to private problems starts. I got following error message in Cobian "Couldn't create the destination directory <destination>". I have tried following issues.

a) In NVX I have created shared folder, which I have put disabled, but with Write-enabled user (CIFS). The created folder I have added to WIN7 as a network place. Opened the network place in explorer so I can give the user and password and save them. In Cobian I choose destination folder the folder in NVX.

b) As above, but I have creted the same user name with same password as I have user account in WIN7 (win7 account is with admin rights).

c) As in case B, but defined in Cobian the destination folder to Private folder of NVX user account.

I have tried case (a) with another computer as well (win 2003) without success.

  • It is because you are running the program as a SERVICE. By default Cobian installs as a SERVICE. Re-install the program as a APPLICATION and the problem will go away.

NOTE: If you have created a few tasks make sure you Save/export them from the file menu before you uninstall Cobian so you can re-import them after the uninstall re-install.
