Need help finding a bottle neck

Recently bought a diskless version of 3130 ReadyNAS. At this point I've only installed one drive (don't ask, more are on the way). The drives I'm putting in are 4TB WD Red Pro. I've updated to latest firmware. What I'm struggling with is a transfer speed bottle neck that I can't identify. So I'll do my best to describe the home setup as best as I can here.

Cable Modem --> AirPort Extreme (4th Gen) <--> DLink GS108 (1GB) Switch <-> LinkSys 10/100MB Switch <-> ReadyNAS
                                                                                                                                                    ^--------------------> Mac Mini (mid 2011)

I ran a speed test where the ReadyNAS and the MacMini were both on the LinkSys 10/100MB switch. The test was to copy a 2.5GB mpeg4 video from the Mac Mini using iSCSI and AFP protocols. I got the following

     1) iSCSI was 0:03:33.13

     2) AFP was 0:03:38.04

I found that to be a little disappointing (maybe I have unrealistic expectations?) so I changed out the LinkSys 10/100MB switch with a Netgear 1GB switch I had in another room. I was surpised when I got the following result

    1) iSCSI was 0:03:33.09

I thought ok, maybe the nic cards didn't renegoiate their link speeds. So I reboot both the Mac Mini and the ReadyNAS and then verified both were reporting 1GB links. I did this two fold:

    1) Verified dual green led's on both NICs

    2) Verified OSX reporting it and the ReadyNAS admin console reporting it

I then reran the test and got essentially the same result. So I'm a bit puzzelled.

    I wanted to eliminate the HD in the mac mini as the potential source. So I created a 4GB RAM disk on the Mac Mini and copied the same file there. I then copied the file from the RAM disk to the ReadyNAS AFP share. Essentially the same result 0:03:36.12.

      Which firmware are you running?

      Is the LUN thin/thick?

      Is bit-rot protection enabled/disabled?

      Do you have snapshots enabled?

      Are Sync Writes enabled/disabled?

        Also, it would be useful to include read results, not just writes.

        Maybe after you respond to mdgm's queries you could try a direct connect test?

        Connect the ethernet cable directly between the NAS and the apple PC (no crossover is needed).

        If the NAS is using dhcp, then it will default to 192.168.168.168. You'd need to temporarily set a compatible address on the Mac (for instance 192.168.168.100).

        Then repeat the test (using IP addresses, not device names).
