Power Supply

My legacy model is not even on the pull-down model choices!!!  I have an OLD, pre-Netgear, gray cased called the ReadyNAS Instant Storage (PN: RNX7S2000, SN:000DA20094D1) model.  I cannot get into the device but believe it is running a recent version of Raidiator in Raid X.

 

It is rebooting all the time, and I am looking to get my drives (I believe 4 4Tb drives, will pull cover off and look soon) out of it or upgrade to a new model.  Use is for home only.

 

Can I and how do I proceed?

    I think your NAS is also known as an X6 - I've attached a picture below.

     

    It can't support 4 TB drives, the largest it could handle is 2 TB. Do you know what firmware it is running?

     

    I suggest powering down the NAS, and testing the drives in a Windows PC with vendor tools.  Use Lifeguard for Western Digital, Seatools for Seagate.

      Yes, that is the model, thank you!

       

      The are 1000Mb drives, 4 of them.  However, I cannot get into the device as the power button is flashes for about 30 seconds, then all 4 drives light up for about 3 seconds and goes back to the flashing power button.  The software, if I remember correctly, is a RAIDiator version I updated about a year ago (sorry, do not remember the version).

        My first ReadyNAS was an NV+ v1, and your model is quite bit older than that.  So I have no hands-on experience with your model.

         

        Do you have SSH enabled?

         

        Try powering down, removing the drives (labeling by slot), and then powering up again.  Then see if RAIDar gives you a "no disks" status. https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads

         

        I do suggest testing the disks with Lifeguard or Seagate.  If that is not possible, then an alternative is to try

        • power down the NAS
        • install only disks 2,3,4 in their original slots
        • power up and see if it boots.

        You can then repeat that test with other drive combinations (1,2,3; 1,3,4; 1,2,4) and see if any of those combinations work. Preserve the slot order, and make sure that all insertions and removals are done with the NAS powered down.  Also, don't remove more than one disk.

         

        If any of those combinations boot, download the full log zip file.
