RN102 and single disk upgrade
Hi!
I searched in the FAQ and manual, but couldn't find the relevant answers so here I am.
I'm a new user with a RN102. At first I had the intention to use two unsupported 1TB drives following this course of action:
I was not okay with the performance of the NAS, I guess the HD103UJ may be to slow. So, I decided to be a good boy and order a supported drive; WD RED WD30EFRX
I'm not sure what to do now. I know that if I would insert the WD30EFRX, the volume would sync to this drive and I would have a 1TB XRAID volume between a possible slow Samsung and a nice WD drive.
So, In OS6.1 I switched XRAID off (in System > Volumes)
Now I wonder what to do next. I think there's some software installed on the 1TB drive, so I can't just put the 3TB in, copy the data and remove the 1TB drive?
There's no need for mirroring yet (no money, so I'll backup via USB what's important).
Would the best course of action be to;
But how can I copy the data already on the 1TB to the 3TB without having to do it over the network again?
I hope I've made myself a bit clear, thanks in advance!

I'm a new user with a RN102. At first I had the intention to use two unsupported 1TB drives following this course of action:
- Install 1TB Samsung HD103UJ
- Factory Default installation & configuration of RN102
- Copy data from 1TB Western Digital WD10EADS HFS+ partition, over network during the night, to the NAS
This is what I've done so far, now comes what was supposed to happen - Format 1TB Western Digital WD10EADS and install in RN102 --> XRAID will sync to this disk

Would the best course of action be to;
- power down the NAS
- remove the 1TB
- insert the 3TB
- factory default / reinstall
But how can I copy the data already on the 1TB to the 3TB without having to do it over the network again?
I hope I've made myself a bit clear, thanks in advance!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI thinking backing up your data, doing a factory default and restoring the data from backup is the only way to go here unless you are happy to ave multiple volumes.
- nasischijfAspirantDo you think I can remove the 1TB, insert the 3TB, factory default the NAS. Then, insert the 1TB (in situ) and copy the data internally to the 3TB and remove the 1TB. Or, would the fact that the 1TB contains some OS stuff make it impossible?

I think I've found the answer myself :D
How do I migrate a volume on my ReadyNAS OS 6 desktop storage system? http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22895You can migrate a volume from one ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system to another, as long as you migrate every disk in the volume. For example, if you want to migrate a volume that contains two disks, you must add both disks to the new system. If you add only part of a volume to the new system, the system recognizes the disk as a degraded volume.
If your ReadyNAS storage system is operating with one or more disks, you can add disks while the system is running. The new system recognizes the migrated volume and its data
So, I should just Factory Default the device with the 3TB disk and config as a FlexRaid volume. Insert the 1TB disk after configuring and copy the data. I think this should work, I'll post my result! - vandermerweMasterI think the readynas will create a new volume on the 1 tb disk, in other words you'll lose data.
I hope I'm wrong, but you should really have a backup before doing things like this. - nasischijfAspirantFor the sake of collective knowledge: I'll just try :D (yes, there's a backup ;))
- nasischijfAspirantI shut down the NAS, inserted the 3TB and did a factory reset. After it had finished, I inserted the 1TB. ReadyNas started nagging a bit about me having to delete the volume. I wasn't able to recover the 1TB. I think the way volumes are handled by ReadyNas OS6 is not a default method for Debian, so it was not easy to just insert the disk and mount the drive as whatever volume. So if you're better known to the way the volumes are handled, I guess it would be possible to do so.
(NB. both configurations were in FlexRaid mode).
