ReadyDrop is no available
Hi,
I'm running Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) on my Mac Mini (Mid 2011).
I've installed ReadyNAS Remote v.1.2.11. and enabled ReadyDrop on my RN312.
The main purpose I purchased this NAS is to sync our iPhoto Library across 2 macs. There is my wife's MacBook Air and my MacMini.
I have a iPhoto Library which is 54GB big and I've put it in the ReadyDrop folder. The ReadyDrop icon in the menu bar shows "Indexing..." for a while but then switches to "ReadyDROP is no available".
How can I find out whats causing the Issue? I can reproduce the problem by simply quitting ReadyDROP and restarting it from the ReadyNAS Remote menu by clicking on ReadyDrop->FolderName.
Are there any logs on the mac or NAS which I can look into? I do have SSH access to the NAS.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
MemphiZ

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of ReadyNAS OS?
Mavericks is quite new and it's possible that an update to ReadyNAS Remote might be needed for compatibility. - MemphiZAspirantI'm running the latest version 6.1.4.
Do I have any possibility to look into some logs created by the service? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPerhaps try filling in this form: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=138&t=51197
- MemphiZAspirantOK done.
- steedAspirantI am having this same issue (ReadyDrop ... dropping offline randomly and then alerting me to its new status by a line containing a typo).
Similarly to MemphiZ, I just dropped a biggish load of files on the ReadyDrop share, and it's only uploaded about 1/7th of the contents of the files.
My ReadyDrop app seems to work for about a minute before quitting.
Setup:
ReadyNAS 102
OS 6.1.4
MacBook Pro 15 (late 2013 edition)
OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Both computer and ReadyNAS are plugged into the same hub.
I bought the ReadyNAS *today* and it has three primary jobs:
1) to be the main repository for my iTunes library that I will then stream to my other devices
2) to be the mail repository for my Photos that I will point to from a few different places
3) to be a Dropbox replacement for graphics and images that my creative director and I share
If this isn't the right solution, I'd love to hear it now before my return window closes.
Thanks! - MemphiZAspirantFilled out the form. No reply yet. Tried Online Chat Support but it just kept "rechecking for a free employee" for about 25 minutes. Might try phone support next. For now I'm disappointed by netgear customer support.
steed: Did it work before Mavericks for you? - steedAspirantMemphiZ: I got it from Amazon yesterday, and I was already running Mavericks, so I have no frame of reference.
Judging from what I'm reading elsewhere in this forum though, it sounds like there are a bunch of problems with Mavericks.
Honestly I'm thinking of returning the ReadyNAS and trying something else. The whole ReadyNAS experience to me feels cobbled together from very different parts with no unified theory threading them together. - MemphiZAspirantOK I've just received the following email:
I would like you to know that I have some words from our level 3 that the is really a compatibility issue with MAC 10.9 Maverick and we would like to apologize for that but surely they are already working on it.
I guess its wait and see then.
steed: About "cobbled together very different parts" I can only say that I can't share this opinion with you. For me netgear's ReadyNAS systems are by far the best. I had a Zyxel and it was horrible. I have a friend who has a NAS from Buffalo and he told me that he never got it to work as its supposed to be. Also I very much like the ReadyNAS OS Interface. I think its way cleaner than most NAS interfaces (especially compared to Zxyel).
Besides this Issue right now (which is hopefully fixed soon) I don't have any problems with my RN312.
Regards,
MemphiZ - steedAspirantMemphiZ: I was a little luckier than you were with the online chat. I got in touch with someone, but they said basically the same thing as you got in email: the ReadyNAS OS is not yet compatible with Mavericks, and he couldn't give me a ballpark time when it would. My ReadyNAS is on its way back.
In the past 3 months, I have tried products from Drobo, Synology, LaCie, and the first version of the FileTransporter. Of those, the Synology seems to have the most comprehensive feature set and most consistent user interface across all its screens, but getting it set up to do the remote access stuff was where it fell down (in my opinion, for my simple brain). I agree that the NetGear is better in a lot of ways than some of the others I mentioned, but I know myself well enough to know that the learning curve is too steep, and that I'll very likely forget how I did it after a few days /weeks when I want to come back and make a change to some setting. :-(using nas 104 , v 6.2.5
I have instaled readyNAS remote on computer. Because I did'n see ready drop in my NAS ip/admin/cloud directory I uninstaled readyNAS remote from my comp (win 8.1).
I still see readydrop folder with no supported icon on my computer. But I still can see in cloud directory. What I should do to see it?
Any help will be appriciated.
BR,
Tomi Aurednik
