Re: ReadyNAS 104 access from Mac slow

6.8.0 has a setting to optimize for OSX, so maybe try that first.

Then try the link above (which tells you how to disable SMB signing on the OSX system).

Re: ReadyNAS 102 access from Mac slow

i am having the same issues with most of the macs used at the company I work at. What is the fix to this issue? Will it have to be done on every computer?

I’ve tried everything and it’s still painfully slow. Think it is what it is unfortunately.

Re: ReadyNAS 104 access from Mac slow

I am facing an issue vereby access from my Apple Mac computers to the ReadyNAS 102 is extremely slow. The issue seems to have gotten worse after a recent firmware upgrade from v. 6.2.5 to v. 6.8.1 - now it takes 10-15 minutes to list files in a folder on the NAS.

I read NetGear forums, and although this seems to be a known issue experienced by many users, I was not able to find a solution. This thread mentions that firmware 6.8.x makes it possible to optimize ReadyNAS for access from Apple Macs. Please advise how I can enable that.

Many thanks.

Go to system->settings->services in the web ui.  Click on SMB and you will see "enhance MacOS".  Check that box.

Re: ReadyNAS 104 access from Mac slow

Can you try creating an empty test share, and measure the performance to it?  That would help us understand if the number of files/folders is a factor in your poor performance.

If ipv6 is enabled on your NAS (and you use ipv4 in the router), try disabling ipv6 on the NAS network settings page.

If readycloud is installed on the mac, perhaps try disabling it - just on the off-chance that it is routing your transfer through the cloud server.

Also, you might want to test with both AFP and SMB.  You might also want to make sure SMB3 transport encryption is disabled on the NAS (look in the advanced SMB settings for the share), and perhaps also test with SMB signing disabled on the Mac.  Some NAS support hardware encryption, but the RN104 isn't one of them.

Re: ReadyNAS 104 access from Mac slow

At our company we have the same problem with the ReadyNAS 3138.

We have 6 iMacs connected to NAS and several times per day the connection freezes and every iMac user has then simultaneously the connection problem. When this problem occurs the administrator does not see any overload indications in the readout of the NAS and he also can browse all the files without lag problems. He is connected with a Windows PC.

We've tried the SMB and AFP protocol. On both protocols we see the communication problem on the iMacs.

The NAS is connected through ethernet Cat6 cable and the distribution of the data is managed by a Netgear M4100 switch. All iMac workstations are connected via ethernet Cat5e or Cat6 cables.

One iMac runs on MacOS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, 4 iMacs run on MacOS 10.10.5 Yosemite an one iMac runs on MacOS 10.13.1 High Sierra.
The NAS runs on the latest firmware.

Please help!

Re: ReadyNAS 102 access from Mac slow

Hello,

We're having extremely slow access to our NAS via of MACs. We've been going back and forth with NetGear support in trying to resolve the issues and nothing has worked. I see that for some users that NetGear logged into their system and made some adjustments which solved their problems. Is there anyway I can find out what was done so that I can relay it to the support group that has been handling our issues. It seems we have not reached the right support unit with NetGear that appears to has more MAC knowledge.

Thanks,

John
