ReadyNAS 102 & Multiple Time Machines

hi there.

I have used my readynas very well and reliably over the last year.

I use one disk as a backup drive, and one for general file/media storage to share around the house.

A current time machine backup has brought the disk to full and I want to do another time machine backup done on the other disk of the nas (there is no RAID setup) however when you go to the backup/timemachine menus in the webos of the nas you cannot select a disk and it always want to setup a new user/new time machine on the first drive which has no space, I want to use the other drive.

Any ideas?

Hello Risky3uk,

Welcome to the community!

You might want to check this article: How do I increase the capacity of the Time Machine backup on my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?

Thanks but I want to keep the existing backup. So use both disks for time machine, a different backup on each. I have different shares but even if they are mounted I can't select them from the list time machine offers cos they aren't there.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 & Multiple Time Machines

Hello Risky3uk,

Unfortunately, even if there is no RAID and there are 2 different volumes, even when accessing NAS via SMB/CIFS, it only shows the shares of the NAs and not the 2 different volumes.

I'll check with others if there is a way somewhere, somehow to point TimeMachine to which volume you want the back up.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 & Multiple Time Machines

Hello Risky3uk,

TimeMachine backups get saved to the default volume, so it seems currently there is really no option to select or point the TimeMachine to back up to another volume of the NAS.

I guess you can post this a suggestion at the idea exchange board.
